    Default Omar Narvaez

I just haven't seen much of this guy.

How good is he? For those that would know.

Sometimes its hard to tell a guy's opposition on boxrec when he's fighting at 112, just cause you haven't heard of a guy doesn't mean he isn't good. I notice Brahim Asloum who he won an easy UD over. From watching Parra handle Asloum I wasn't that impressed but to be fair Narvaez seems to have beaten him clearly as well.

How does he fit in with Donaire, Sakata, Kameda, Naito, Wonjogknam?

I must admit I've taken a bit of an interest in this guy recently, as I realised he was from the Welsh language speaking area of Argentina, and was sort of wondering whether he did actually speak Welsh.

Haven't seen him fight either, but have been following his results, and he seems to be good from what he's achieved, but as you mentioned, till we see him either unify or defend against a really big name in the division, it could just be a case of wait and see.

Skilled guy, moves very well but is not active enough throughout the fight. Good counter puncher and good handspeed. Fast reflexes also.

There's several little guys who rarely get mentioned and have gone under the radar of people. I suggest if you can get your hands on fights that you at least take a look and see what they are all about:

    Hasegawa
    Asloum
    Niida
    Nietes
    Oleydong

from what I've seen I'm not that high on Asloum but to be fair I haven't seen much and it was all against top level guys.

I'm a big fan of Hasegawa, seen a lot of his fights, good fighter.

I've only seen a little of Niida, seems like a pretty good fighter.

Have never seen Nietes or Oleydong, will keep an eye out.

I think Narvaez is okay. He needs to step up the comp level. I like Niida and Hasegawa a lot. Nietes too. Asloum I think was a better AM than pro. He still fights like one. Oleydong i need to see more of

Hasegawa is a tremendous fighter. I've beenn hugely impressed by Niida the few times I've seen him. I know Narvaez is about to equal Monson record for defences for an Argenitinan fighter but I won't lie, I don't think I've seen much of him at all. He's won a few fights in peeps backyards hasn't he? I'd like to see him step up competition, try to unify or get bigger fights. Just my opinion.

So would anybody favor him over guys like Donaire or Sakata or Wonjongknam? Or Naito?

Why not Kameda? That would be a decent money fight in Japan.

    I'd favor Omar over PongsaShit...

I think he beats Sakata because IMO Sakatas on his way out...

    I think Donaire beats Omar.

I think Omar beats Naito also.

I have to agree. A few years ago, Pong would have ripped Omar apart but now, not so sure. Sakata MAY be on his way down, then again,he's been fighting tough, young, hungry fighters as of late so it may be decieving. As for Naito,he's so dam awkward,he has a chance in all these fights!

I agree with most of it. I think Narvaez-Naito would be 50-50

I like Narvaez he's a very skilled little guy. His wins over Asloum are impressive but as stated earlier in the thread Asloum may have been a better amateur than he is at pro level or fighting above his best weight.

Narvaez was very close to fighting Darchinyan on what would have been the Castillo/ Corrales 3 under card but it fell through. That would have been a great match-up & given us an idea as to how good Narvaez really is.

Narvaez was drawing some pretty big crowds in Argentina & it's disappointing he hasn't really stepped up in class. His last fight against Pozo was a waste of time IMO as Pozo had already been defeated by Surritzu who Narvaez had beaten by SD & then drawn with, Surritzu was just recently KO'd by Inom who will more than likely be Narvaez's next opponent.

I think Sakata & Donaire would beat Narvaez but I think Narvaez would get the better of Naito & Wonjongkam.

I would love to see Narvaez in with Donaire I think thats a great match-up. Both a very good technically but I feel Nonito's speed & power would separate the two.

I was watching some Narvaez fights tonight with this whole Garay the new Argentine champ.... I got some new fights that I hadn't seen before and also managed to come across some of his amateur fights.

It sucks for some of the fans that not a lot of people get a chance to see him. I will assume it has a lot to do with him being in Argentina being a Flyweight and all. We all know theres not as much money down there then up in the heavier weights and I'm sure that also plays a big role. I'm also certain he makes more then enough money fighting in his native Argentina.

As I've said before this guy has skills man, and great ring generalship. Hes a come forward fighter when he has to be and then he can quickly turn into an excellent skilled boxer. Just a well rounded fighter as I mentioned before in other posts his hand speed is really good and he has great footwork to go along with it.

Something that should be noted and depending on how you view it should give you some type of mind debate is that he BEAT Joan Guzman, Jose Navarro, Steve Molitor and lost to Wladimir Sidorenko in a close fight in the amateurs. I know, I know pros & ams are 2 different things but still. To me that says a lot even if I hadn't seen him fight.

It's too bad that he has spent the better part of his career in Argentina and in obscurity of the sport. Plus now hes 32 and is getting up there in age.

Again I recommend that you get online and try to get a hold on some of his fights. He puts on a really good show. Hopefully if he ever decides to fight another champ or move up in weight it's not to late in his career.
