Default Is he really the best?

Ali has been rated the best ever, but do you personally think?

as far as pure boxing ability and performance, I'd have to say that honor, IMO, goes to Sugar Ray Robinson-or perhaps Joe Louis (i'm torn between the two). But Ali is the best package deal in boxing history-amazing skills inside the ring, incredible charisma for the cameras, and a legacy of contributing greatly to the sport's popularity worldwide. I think he's easily the most recognizable boxer of any generation.

no. most people think he is. most people dont know anything about boxing. most of this is because that is his nickname, he is the most famous fighter of all time and he was very good. ray robinson is the best of all time.

Ali is obviously the greatest, but not the best.

Joe Louis was the best in my opinion.

like mentioned before, joe luis was immense, but so was robinson.
robinson had amazing hand speed, but louis had that jissile right hand...
i cant decide. if joe louis faced ali, ali would have gone home in the first round

Ali imo was the best Heavyweight Boxer.

When i say boxer i mean a conventional type of fighter who makes boxing look like a art, not a slugger, that position goes to Marciano.

But you cant really compare weightclasses, he definetly was the worlds greatest HEAVYWEIGHT boxer, but you cant really compare him to any of the lowerweights just due to the physical power and speeds some classes had over others

Joe louis was a great fighter, who was even idolized by the likes of rocky marciano, but he didnt have charisma to be the total package Ali was, even though if Ali + Louis ever fought, Louis would probally win, Ali was more " marketable "

yes but charisma has nothing to do with fighting skill

boxing is a entertainment sport, its not a sport because they have to do it, its a sport because people enjoy watching it, and people enjoy watching ali because of his charisma, so he was the greatest boxer because not only was he was a good fighter he was a entertainer.
