    Question Our Ten Best

Trying to pick the ten best of all time is a difficult challenge. It all depends on the yardsticks used.

My ten best: Joe Louis, Archie Moore, Sugar Ray Robinson, Harry Greb,
Henry Armstrong, Roberto Duran, Tony Canzoneri, Willie Pep, Eder Jofre,
    and Jimmy Wilde.

Muhammed Ali was great, but more flash and style than substance.

Come on now. He fought just about every contender around and performed well against them. When he lost a lot of his flash and style in the ring, in the mid 70s, he still got the job done.

The top ten list you have is not bad though. Ezzard Charles, Sam Langford, Muhammad Ali, and Benny Leonard all have solid claims though to being top 10. Not sure who I'd remove though.

Good points! And, of course Muhammed (Cassius Clay) Ali is one of the best.
In his own words before he beat Liston he told us he is the greatest.
"Some say the greatest is Sugar Ray, but they have yet to see Cassius Clay".

When he lost his flash and style, he sometimes got the job done,
but he payed a heavy price. In some cases, he even received gift decisions e.g. Jimmy Young.

The only problem i have with these so called 10 best fighters lists, is that the boxers people put in there lists just exactly how many fights have you actually seen of that paticular fighter ? I have only ever seen one Willie Pep fight along with highlights, i've never seen a Harry Greb fight i don't think the footage even exists.........

I don't know about Tony Canzoneri but i'll bet there isn't hardly any footage of him either. I only put fighters in my list who i have seen enough of to rate them, because basically with people like Harry Greb your just going along with other peoples opinions and not your own.
