Thread: Hopkins stills causes Joe Calzaghe a slapper!

I can't believe Hopkins still doesn't give Joe Calzaghe any credit. He basically said Joe can't 'slap his way through the RJJ fight'.
He must surely have felt some of Calzaghe's punches!

Saw Calzaghe, RJJ and Hopkins and Pavlik all interviewed on my now favourite channel, Setanta and Bunce's Boxing Hour!

Hopkins is just being a sore loser.

He's the type you have to roll your eyes at and ignore. he thinks he comes across intelligent/shrewd but really he just comes across cringe-worthy/thick.

When Bunce asked Roy Jones about Hopkins in that program he said he pays him no attention cause he's just a lot of bark.

It's already been said but if your gonna come out and say this STILL after fighting him on the backfoot for the second half the fight, well, not all your dogs are barking. He knew he could hurt him after the first round and failed to capitalize on that, Joe has been down a few times and always comes back to win so full credit to him. He fought harder and deserved the win.

He did win the fight, at least if people have eyes. I think he made Calzaghe look even worse by making Calzaghe resort to slapping, and still missing most of his punches. Whoever was do compubox that night should be ashamed with the numbers they got, Calzaghe didn't even come close to landing over 200 slaps, and he only landed a handful of solid left hands, which he would land at will on anybody else.

It was amazing to see B-Hop's defense that night, among many other nights. He completely nurfed Calzaghe's offense which is among the best in the sport.

I don't see Roy being fast enough of foot, or willing enough to trade off the ropes to stand a chance against Joe. The times Trinidad had Roy on the ropes, Roy would wait for Trindad to finish what he was doing before retaliating, and if you do that against Joe he will throw punches until kingdom come.

However I think Bernard Hopkins has a valid reason to be angry, IMO some of those scores against him where reminiscent of Whitaker-De La Hoya. Calzaghe was given way too much credit in that fight. Hopkins made him look horrible, while still fighting his fight.

Meh, I've never understood why Calzaghe fans get so wound up about him being called a slapper, he slaps with a lot of his punches. He's still a great fighter.

Can anyone blame Hopkins? He's only stating the truth. I thought Calzaghe won the fight but he did not have Hopkins hurt in the least the entire fight.

Yeah thats true, but why emphasize the fact you got beat by a guy who slapped his way to a win over you?

Unfortunately yeah, he is a sore loser. Pretty much any other fighter at age 42 would simply brag about taking Calzaghe the distance in a close fight, not make out he is somehow sub-standard, because then your only stating a sub-standard fighter beat you.

Hopkins is just a bitter old man who cannot face up to the facts. I had always liked Hopkins up until the Taylor fights but since then he has become tiresome. All talk and less and less trousers each time. I hope Pavlik sparks him and gives him a real wake up call.

Hopkins did win that fight IMO.
