I've often thought about this when I see some guys fighting well past when they should, but nobody seems to notice because they aren't very well known. I guess it's just human nature to notice the more famous boxers, after all... they're famous! I notice and I wonder if they get the same kind of pressure to quit that the more famous boxers do? Or maybe the more famous ones actually get more pressure to keep fighting by greedy promoters?

I know I thought about this the last time I saw Patrick Byrd fight. He hasn't gotten knocked out many times, but he looked spent and he's lost a bunch (2-14 last 16 fights). I was just looking at Box Rec and saw that John Duddy was scheduled to fight Sam Hill who has lost 7 and been knocked out 4 times in his last 9 bouts.

It just seems like sometimes the commissions aren't doing a good job at protecting fighters from themselves. I know it's a fine line that has to be walked in deciding when someone should not be allowed to continue to fight. I just wonder if sometimes no one in power notices when some of these lesser knowns have already crossed over the line?
