Default Does anybody else hate the fanboyism that dominates the boxing talk board?

I know I'm not alone in this but I think the main board here has been taken over and ruined by fanyboys in the last year or so.

More and more it seems the veteran posters are joining me in the Hidden boards rather than debate boxing and it's not difficult to see why.

There are so many fanboys and knobs on the main board who turn every thread into a pissing contest about how one fighter is better than another or someone is crap and someone else is overatted.

It's all so gay and unnessary.

First off to those who say Calzaghe is shit, and to those who say Hopkins is shit, please BOTH are exceptional fighters who have EXCEPTIONAL resume's. Why feel the need to denigrate either of their acheivements?

Hopkins wins over Oscar, Trinidad, Tarver, Winky and Pavlik are all great wins. The weight issues just show that Hopkins was smart enough to fight the fights on his terms but don't detract from the fact that he won them all. He's a truly elite fighter, one of the best ever and should be enjoyed whilst we still can.

Calzaghe likewise has beaten every man he's ever faced, has wins over the British legend Chris Eubank, the two most dangerous 168 lb fighters in Kessler and Lacy and a win over a boxing legend in B Hop. In addition he goes on to fight Roy Jones in another huge resume defining fight. You can nitpick but you can nitpick about EVERY fighter who has ever fought.

It's a fact that there is not a single example in the history of boxing where a fighter has beaten another great elite fighter in their prime that couldn't be explained away.

Just have a go. Ali Ko'ing Liston, fight was fixed, Woolcott reffing didn't allow Liston to get up, it was a phantom punch that never landed etc.

Ali beating Foreman, Foreman was poisoned, something put in his drinking water.

Pacquaio Ko'ing Barrera, Barrera couldn;t concentrate because of all the metal head destractions leading up to the fight.

Barrera beating Hamed, Hamed didn't train and thought he was going to win easily.

Hopkins beating Tarver, Tarver had to lose over 50 lbs in weight after the Rocky film, you can excuse away every fight win ever in history

Now the second thing that really annoys me is when people say someone is overatted and then if they lose make a post to highlight how they were right and they finally got justification for their hating

What do people even mean when they say someone is overatted? It's like they are think these boxers are deliberate fraudsters, trying to deceive us out f our money and time to watch them under false pretexes.

This is an important newsflash to fanboys. There is no such thing as an overtated fighter in the eyes of the casual fight fan.

From the fan's point of view boxing is an entertainment sport and people watch the fighters that they are interested in. Their ability rarely comes into it.

Pavlik was popular because he was exciting. He Ko'd the equally huge punching Miranda, and fought a fight of the year slugfest with Jermain Taylor wresting the title away from him in dramatic style. In addition he's a working class kid from an impoverished area and THAT'S why his story appeals. The average person doesn't do a boxrec search, study their opponents and examine punch stats from each fight to determine how good a fighter actually is before they decide they want to pay for a PPV they watch them because they are entertained by that fighter.

All this overatted bullshit just pisses me off.

I don't understand why people want someone to fail just so they can say 'I told you so' thinking it makes them look smart when in fact it's the easiest way in the world to make yourself sound like a complete and total dick hole.

Ok I've had my rant over, I don't really enjoy posting on the boxing talk threads as nearly every thread is slagging off one fighter or another or announcing how 'I was right all along about a certain fighter so please come into this thread and acknowledge how clever I am' threads.

That's why I'd rather stick to the hidden boards and talk about my bowel movements and organise fantasy based fancy dress parties for the Baggins Clan.

    Thankyou

You'll find that most of the veteran posters are still here we just post more and more in the hidden boards now. I'd rather swap True Blood theories with Boxing Gorilla and Diane than compare boxrec searches with an internet warrior these days

Yah, this stuff makes it all kinda boring.

I find that issues regarding weight get tossed around as excuses for losing far too often...

"My guy should stay at junior welterweight, he's just not that good at welterweight" Never mind the fact that welterweight division is heavily populated with better fighters. Or how about "if they'd fought at junior welterweight, my hero would have won".

"The weight drop from Heavyweight to Lightheavy obviously was affecting him" ... more than two years after the fact.

So and So was a natural welterweight, so you can't say the guy who beat him at middleweight is better.

The list goes on. If your favorite fighter is all that great, he should be able to deal with weight changes. Most of the great ones have.

Bilbo what do you expect, everybody has a fighter theyre a fan of, thats why people follow the sport.
It wether or not you can be objective about it.Everybody knows Im a fan of Bernard
And I can objectively say, I hope he finally does retire, and even with his debatable recent losses, its really his own fault for trying to coast through the late rounds. You can make a case that overall he won,but if he'd kept working in there,it wouldnt have been close enough for him to lose the decisions.
I kind of like Kessler, but if he knew his hand was hurt,he should have postponed the fight. And Mikkels managment are idiots for letting Warren rake them over the coals like that.
Ali is god to me,but the Holmes and Berbick fights were abortions
Holmes is a big fave, and it was depressing to watch him beat up on Esche while begging to fight Foreman.
And your complaint thread is a loosly vieled attempt to justify Joes career. And wether you like it or not, nobody can say he conclusively beat Bernard,Kessler was hurt,Lacy wasnt ready and probably wasnt as good as some people thought, and Eubank was washed up.
There isnt any great triumph on Joe's record, and people are allways going to resent that there isnt.
Though him fighting Jones in their primes not happening is not Joe's fault, its Roys,Joe wanted him bad,so did B-hop
Roy is only fighting him now because he's desperate for one last good payday

I really don't think that in the good three years that I'm a member of this site anything changed(much)...there will always be "fanboyism" and there will always be members coming and going...some are idiots and some are pretty cool...

Bilbo! Nice post. I enjoy listening to rants. Fanboyism can get annoying but it is what it is.

I learn to take it with the territory. Every celeb or athlete has die-hard fans. If someone didn't disagree with me, there would be harmony and a forum is no place for harmony. It's supposed to be about people with different views and opinions and if people can open their minds and accept another's opinion, that great, but it usually doesn't happen.

After the Pacquiao vs Marquez rematch this forum went crazy!! I was utterly disgusted by the "Pac dominated Marquez" or "Marquez schooled Pac" comments that I wanted to throw up, when in fact, the fight was one of the best fights of this year. I ended up writing a rant about it and I was given good advice about how this forum can get "big fight syndrome."

So now-a-days I give it a couple of days after a big fight before I come back on. Considering the dominating performance Hopkins gave this weekend, I waited until Monday before I posted anything.

I hate your whiny ass threads you have been starting......dating back like SINCE YOU BECAME A MEMBER. What a fag.

What is worse......you want to be a mod and then you have this big ass wimpy thread in the boxing talk board.

    In conclusion:

    a. You whine too often.
    b. You whine in inapporiate places.
    c. Your whining is unoriginal and stagnant.

Don't forget to mention the anti-fanboyism, which is just another side of the same coin. It can be as good or worse depending on which side you are...
Once in awhile, get outside in fresh air, take a deep breath & with a deep sigh, let out all the things that's bottled up inside you & be free, & you'll get a glimpse of nirvana.
