Im British as well but to say someone like Conteh would beat Calzaghe and Moore wouldnt is diabolical.

To be honest no one can say any of the above would beat Joe because he hasnt been beaten as yet, whereas tthey all have.

Conteh didnt have very good stamina and I dont think would live with Joes pace.

Moore at least had a very good defence and some pop.

Id say the best person to put in with Joe for a chance of beating him is Michael Spinks, another awkward fighter that could work and had power.

Hagler relied on wearing opponents down but Joe wouldnt, Hearns gets hit too easy, Benn got hit too easy and if Michael Watson was beating McCallum then Joe would to.

    At Supermiddle

Hagler Loses pts (cannot believe I am saying that)
Hearns Loses points in a similar fight to Brewer
    Benn Loses ko11
    McCallum Loses pts

    At Light Heavy

Moore loses KO 9 after Joe down early
    Conteh loses KO 10

PS McCallum was not losing to Watson, he dominated him.

Are we saying that Hagler could not have lived with Calzaghe ?

I think Hagler could wipe the floor with everyone that Joe has fought.

People like Ashira, Veit and Manfredo wouldn't last a round.

I have never thought about it before but at SM weight I think Joe has got the style to beat Hagler.

Its hard to judge how the fight would go because Hagler only fought at middle weight but even if he carried his speed and power up i think Joe has his number.

andykopgod I hope you dont mind but I am going to start a Hagler-Calzaghe thread.

Hagler - Joe outspeeds, outmanoevers, outboxes him to win on points
Hearns - Joe catches him often enough to cause Hearns alot of facial damage. Ref steps in round 10
Benn - Joe makes Benn miss and gas out forces a late stoppage
Moore - Moore hangs in their till the end but isnt quick enough
McCallum - Joe keeps it at range avoids the body shots and wins on volume
Conteh - Joes extra speed and boxing skills steal him a verdict

I dont think Joe is better than all of these guys p4p but stylistically I think he beats em .

Yes I said it, at supper middle anyway and Hagler would destroy the fighters you mentioned but think Joe would out box Hagler. Damn, cant believe I said it.

Agreed and think Spinks and RJJ would also beat Joe at light heavy.

Well if we picking anyone I think Roy in his prime beats any version of Joe.
I believe Hopkins right now is as good as Cazlaghe, in his prime I think Bernard is clearly a favorite going into a fight with Calzaghe anywhere from 160 to 175(or higher).
Ezzard Charles would give him in a run for his money, as would Billy Conn.

I think Chad Dawson in a few years would be honest competition for Joe in any form, and he might even be now.

Michael Watson was beating Mike McCallum are you out of your mind ? your really showing your lack of knowledge yet again. Mike McCallum gave Michael Watson a pasting round after round, it wasn't even close what the hell are you talking about ?

Hagler lose on point's. Are you people on crack. Joe would go down in the first and stay down do to Hagler being one of the top finisher's of all time. Hagler lost only 1 big fight and with alot of contaversy. I don't think you guy's realize what a force Hagler was in his youth. Nobody wanted anything to do with him. He was robbed against Bobby BooGooLoo Watts in a hometown Philadelphia desicion. The only one people say he lost except Hagler's clan was Willie the Worm Monroe. Who he then knocked out in the twelfth round and 2nd round of the rematch and rubber match. Calzaghe would be caught early and often then knocked out cold as shown against most taller skinnier fighter's he fought.

You can't compare anyone Hagler fought to Calzaghe, none of them had the same style, sure Hearns and Leonard had his athleticism if not more, but they didn't impose themselves the same way, and they weren't naturally as big. Hagler didn't have that great of opposition besides the other three, and Duran went 15 close rounds with him, Leonard survived 12 with him. You are forgetting that everytime Calzaghe has been down, he would get right back up and force you back, and like I said a lot of that could just be ring rust because he doesn't spar in the gym.

Bennie Briscoe was a good pressure fighter who was a big man, Marvin Hagler handled his pressure well.
