Question If Hatton vs Pacquiao doesn't do Big PPV numbers does it mean MMA is bigger?

I was watching that MMA fight the UFC 94 and the bar was packed to the roof. Also they were saying this fight could reach 1.5 million ppv buys.
The announcer was saying that ufc 91 and ufc 92? both did over 1 million ppv buys while boxing super fights like roy jones jr vs calzaghe and the pavlik hopkins fight didnt live up to expectations. Doing around 200,000 buys.
Why is it that this UFC is getting many ppv buys? and Boxing struggles to even pass the 300,000 mark.

I think the hatton vs pacquiao will not do many buys in america it will do better then the jones vs calzaghe and will get around 600,000 buys in the usa, but most of the big buys will be in the UK maybe 800,000 where hatton should get the bulk of the money because of his power there.

if the hatton vs pacquiao fight doesn't do 1 million buys it is a failure? and boxing doesnt have any other superstar, dana white said oscar losing to pacman was bad for boxing and I agree because oscar was the goldenboy the biggest draw we had now we have nothing.

I think it can either get to the million mark or close to it. Hatton who is the biggest draw in UK and Pacman who is p4p the best and fan status grows every time he fights.

#1 MMA is total crap....UFC has succeeded in stereotyping their fans and it really is devoid of talent on the non national level.

#2 Who cares about that? The Tito Ortiz and Jenna Jameson relationship proves a couple of things A) All pornchicks want to be like Jenna Jameson and B) Class attracts class......and the lack of class gets you MMA fighters and pornstars....that's a rung above pan handlers in my view

mma is not even a united sport, affliction is kicking ufcs ass. boxing has its history, something mma can never surpass. IMO both sport has nothing to do with eachother, only people like dana white make it out to be a competition which sport is better. But dana needs to worry more about how big affliction is getting, boxing will always be here ufc may not if affliction continues to grow rapidly.

    true what you say

but without the fans or the numbers in ratings boxing will be like those tv show that get canceled.

Boxing needs to out do mma in terms of numbers and so far they are doing lousy. How can Boxing take some of the younger audience when most boxing fans are over 50. Ufc fans are young in the teens and in the 20s and 30s.

MMA PPV's are CHEAPER than boxing PPV's....Boxers make a ton more money than MMA fighters.

Boxers on the whole make more than MMA fighters...the stars of boxing make more than the stars of MMA and the average boxer makes more than the average MMA fighter....Boxing is economically better for the fighter AND the fan.

Totally right about the history thing. Boxing has been around as an actual sport for more than a century. You can't beat that kind of history. Boxing will never surpass MMA. I think its like a fad. Everyone thinks its cool to like MMA. It won't last, or at least I hope. I can't even stand watching MMA. A bunch of guys rolling on each other? No thanks. I also know what its like to actually fight and it doesn't compare to boxing. MMA is, or at least I hope, a fad and people will come back to boxing.

Now boxing needs some serious upgrades. There needs to be one system. Not these multitudes of belts stuff. When they say he's the heavyweight champion of the world it should be THE not "one of them". There should be one and one only. Officials need to stop being money greedy and plan for the good of the sport. Boxing is dying, face it. And we need a Muhammad Ali (a guy just as popular outside the ring as inside) to rise up and carry boxing. And I'm sure there will be a guy like that someday. A superstar, a guy that people (even non-boxing fans) love. Love him or not, Muhammad Ali was a popular guy. But that's just chance. That the right guy will come (yes, it's the right time). Now what I hope... is its myself

"Bigger" is not always better and in this case its like trying to compare the ill fated XFL leauge to the Long standing NFL.But at least up till now MMA has Vince McMahon beat in longevity
