Calzaghe was close to pulling out of the fight again.

What would have happened with Lacy?

How would his carrer have gone?

I don't think he'd have gone on to be a world beater or anything like that, but the Calzaghe fight took away all his confidence, I think he would have gone on to fight Kessler who would have beat him, but possibly not as bad as JC did

I think someone would have caught him sooner or later,he was a really flawed fighter at the end of the day.
He's still young enough to change that, but doesnt seem to want to. Im sure his trainers bark at him,but some fighters just wont change no matter what you tell them

When I think of a Lacy,I think of The Gamboas and Bertos of today. All have some skill, but a lesson in rushing it to the huge media glare before they have mastered the fundamentals.Like trying to construct a house from the roof down.

I think the Lacy win the most overrated on Calzaghes resume. It was such a big win, mainly because Lacy was such a hyped fighter and he was undefeated. He is a mediocre to good fighter comparable to the level of fighter as a Peter Manfredo or Omar Sheika, but because the media made him out to be a monster, it seemed like a monster win for Calzaghe at the time. Lacy could have easily lost the decisions in his last 5 fights imo, so if it wasnt Calzaghe to expose him, it would have been someone else.

He would've got found out soon enough, just not so brutally as against Calzaghe. Would probably be in a similar position to someone like Sakio Bika is now, rather than floundering away his career.

I always want to root for Lacy, but it goes like this, jab, slip left, left hook over the top and repeat and repeat and repeat. I used to really like the guy he had a good demeaner and trained hard. But to be honest he is a one trick pony, Calzaghe knew this and exlpoited like no other. To be fair he did show a lot of heart against Tsypko (though I had Tsypko winning) fighting on with a torn rotator cuff. I think Lacy was a case of it was just a matter of time. Kessler, Andrade, Bute all of these guys would have undoubtedly beat Lacy as well, maybe not as badly as Calzaghe, but badly.

I wouldn't lump Berto in with Lacy. Berto is a much more complete fighter than Lacy was and seriously, all of Lacy's big wins came against shot fighters. Berto had a good win against a quality prime fighter. I rate Berto's win over Collazo higher than Lacy's against Reid or Pemberton.

Lacy could have hung around longer, but Kessler would have abused him just as bad.

He would have went on a few more fights possibly picked up one more title but the second he ran into Kessler he would have suffered the same fate....I think Mikkel would have stopped him though....Joe hit him a lot but not hard....More or less just peppered him into oblivion....Though a KO loss might have been better for him...easier to recover from a KO loss then the embaressment he suffered against Joe

I can agree with that on pure natural skills/abilities,Berto is a definate notch above Lacy.More so referring to both being pushed to the forefront with a bit of haste Imo.Though in hindsight.....could we really see Lacy 'maturing' and finding a refind skillset,no matter when he stepped up?Even his minor steps showed repeated hick-ups....Grant frustrated him,I thought Tsypko took it,Pemberton was a pure 'showcase' event Imo,etc...But I can see Berto doing this,he needs to box more and hone his game,Colozzo was a iffy call but Berto made some minor adjustments and did enough to pull it out.My concerns are for the Networks or camp following it up with a biggie,Cotto,Mosley? There were many mistakes A top tier type can exploit if they are not addressed.

Bika gave a much better fight to Calzaghe.
