If J-Gonz was not defeated by Peñalosa, I think he should be the one fighting JuanMa this time... Fortunately for Peñalosa, he will have his shot at JuanMa's title this coming April 25...

What a great fight. I'm going to re-watch it as soon as I finish the paper I'm writing. I'll have something constructive to add after that.

Gonzalez is the man, he was winning against both Vazquez and Penalosa when he got caught, credit to Izzy for having the heart of a lion, credit to Gerry for showing his old caginess.

Gonzalez against JML would be guaranteed fireworks, excellent fight. Jhonny has only been in one boring fight and that was against Montiel.
He has looked like a tank lately, his blowout of Lopez was obsene.

yep, weight could be one factor of the loss... but i hate it when boxers agreed to fight in a weight that they're not comfortable anymore...

of course, i think J-Gonz felt he can defeat Peñalosa even if he's having weight issues... he was just caught by a well planned and well executed Peñalosa body punch...

Can you recommend a couple of good Gonzalez fights (preferably with links to said fights)? The only one I've seen is the Vazquez one.

G-Jonz future still looks very bright... He's young (27), has the frame, height and reach to go up in weight...

Anything in '08 is good, all 5 fights have great finishes. The fights against Reynaldo Lopez and Edel Ruiz were my favorites.

His big wins against Pacheco, Speedy Gonzalez, Too Sharp Johnson and Elizando are all worth watching.

Jhonny for long stretches handled Izzy and Penalosa, was more dominant for a stretch than Rafa ever was with Izzy, he's just not the sturdiest guy but he's dangerous for everybody.

His biggest strength is he knows how to finish, there is noone more dangerous from 118-126 if you get staggered.
