    Default Headbutt

Is it just me or is there too much confusion surrounding the term headbutt, not long ago we used the expression clash of heads. I think headbutt makes it sound deliberate, clash of heads decribes what happens in most cases.
In the past a referee would make reference to a headbutt when issuing a warning or deducting points for a deliberate act. Even the expression unintentional headbutt sounds bad.
Maybe it's just because I am from Glasgow !

I have been a little too liberal with my terminology. When I have been saying headbutt, I have really been referring to the accidental clash of heads that occured in the first. It wasn't intentional, and a headbutt is something usually done with intent.

Yeah spot on mate, the concern I was raising was the understanding of the term for the casual boxing fan or when you speak to the uninitiated and say something about a headbutt they think the sport is even more barbaric than they imagined !

Yep. One the worst examples of a headbutt I have ever seen was Marvin Hagler's against Vito Antuofermo in the first round of their second fight. More blatant than anything Holyfield ever pulled. I'd like to see that one again, but I can't find a video of it on youtube.

Jim Watt V Sean O'Grady was a classic case of a deliberate head being used by Watt when he had the referee blindside.Caused huge controversy at the time with an appeal put in next day by O'grady's camp.Nothing came of it but he was given another title shot soon after this time with the WBA.

In the movies, the bad guy always headbutts someone. Good guys do it as well. But they bever have a "clash of heads."

Recently if anyone saw Raul Marquez and Lorenzo...
Lorenzo was so frustrated late in the fight he really whacked him with his noggin hard! I believe it finally got a point taken away, and a crucial one at that. The judges had it a lot closer than I did. something like 114-113 x3. That butt lost Lorenzo his undefeated record.

Bika is a headbutting fool. He really was trying to mess up Calzaghe with that dome of his. not as blatant as Lorenzo's though.

Oh yeah.. and you can look at my icon up there (Rahman fyi). Yup good ol' Holyfield and his hard noggin at work.

Holyfield is the all time king when it comes to the headbutt. Just ask Dokes,Radman,Tyson, and Lewis.
