    Default Title Progression

Probably one more for the Brits out there but does anyone else get pissed off that no one seems to care any more about winning titles at domestic level. In days gone by it was an assumption you would go for the British,European and Commonwealth titles and it was a proud moment when a fighter won the Lonsdale belt outright.
I know some with special talent may have deprived slightly lesser fighters the privenidge of holding a lower title but it seems that eveyone just gets hyped up these days to go straight to a WT.
All respect to the Grafters who go through the ranks in a progressive manner, maybe some of the hot shots should try it.

Actually I think a lot of the bread and butter fighters DO care about them.

edited to add - perhaps because they figure it's the right way to do things, recognition of that titles history, or realising that's as high as they can go. But the 'lower' titles still mean plenty to fighters.

It's cool and I find it interesting to see people slowly progress through the ranks and build up more n more through the various titles before going for a world title. But dude above me is right, why bother going for a lower belt when you can go for the more prestigious belt by being mouthy and media savvy...

For example, I'm not sure if I see someone like Tyson Fury going for the British HW Title. He's got the mouthiness so far, calling everyone out and gaining media/public interest. Provided he keeps winning and if he impresses in the US on the Froch undercard, he may well prove popular enough to get more global fighters/promoters interested. But that's if he keeps winning I guess, got a lot of polishing to do

yeah, he ain't exactly normal in the head now is he?

I like it when fighters build their reputation and experience by moving through the ranks. That's how they used to build a following. Not by being gobby. That builds you a following of people who want to see you knocked out.

What would you rather look at when you retired the Lonsdale belt, or the WBO international belt?

As always I blame Frank Warren.

Haye won the English title, was scheduled to fight for the British against Mark Hobson who pulled out, then won and defended the European title, then became undisputed world champ and even blasted out another belt holder for good measure.

I'd say he's done far more than just shout his mouth off wouldn't you

that was Cruiserweight, not heavy, all he did at heavy was beat Monte Barrett , when fighters who are a lot more established than Haye such as Fernando Montiel and Marco Antonio Barrera first fight for a WBO interim title before a major title i don't see why the hell Haye should get off so lightly

LOADS of fighters move straight into a title shot at the higher weight.

Just in recent times I can think of - Marquez fought Casamayor, Pac fought Diaz, Floyd fought Oscar, Calzaghe fought Hopkins, Hopkins fought Tarver, Hatton fought Floyd, Judah fought Spinks and on and on and on and on.

Like Haye NONE of those fighters had form in the higher weight class.

I don't remember anyone complaining about these fighters not being worthy?

    What has Haye done wrong?

everyone of those names you listed there were bigger names than David Haye

    What?

So you only deserve a title shot if you're well known? By whom exactly?

David Haye, the former undisputed cruiserweight champion, seems pretty well known by hardcore boxing fans all over the world. He's pretty well known by the Klitschkos. He's pretty well known in Britain. He's pretty well known in Europe. He's pretty well known by HBO, Showtime and definitely Golden Boy.

So he doesn't deserve this fight - why?
