    Default Rematch at Azteca

Well the US put out their roster for the rematch, and I must say, Bob Bradley has done a better job putting this team together.

Goalkeepers: Tim Howard (Everton, England), Brad Guzan (Aston Villa, England).

Defenders: Carlos Bocanegra (Rennes, France), Jonathan Bornstein (Chivas USA), Steve Cherundolo (Hannover 96, Germany), Jay DeMerit (Watford, England), Chad Marshall (Columbus Crew), Oguchi Onyewu (AC Milan, Italy), Jonathan Spector (West Ham, England).

Midfielders: Michael Bradley (Borussia Mönchengladbach, Germany), Ricardo Clark (Houston Dynamo), Clint Dempsey (Fulham, England), Benny Feilhaber (Aarhus, Denmark), Stuart Holden (Houston Dynamo), Jose Francisco Torres (Pachuca, Mexico).
Forwards: Jozy Altidore (Hull City, England), Conor Casey (Colorado Rapids), Brian Ching (Houston Dynamo), Charlie Davies (Sochaux, France), Landon Donovan (Los Angeles Galaxy).

The noteable players that I think have been left off are Freddy Adu, Kenny Cooper, and I think Maurice Edu but then again he may still be hurt, maybe you could make a case for Kyle 'RRRRAAASTA' Beckerman. Also Jermain Jones isn't on there because I think he #1 is injured and #2 some rule is going to keep him off the American side until later in the fall. Bob, Conor Casey SUCKS! But bravo Bob for putting Torres on the squad, he should be used to the altitude playing at Pachuca.

Our starting squad should be something like this:

    GK: Howard

LB: Bornstein CB: Onyewu CB: Bocanegra RB: Spector

    CDM: Clarke
    LM: Bradley RM: Dempsey
    CAM: Donovan

    ST: Davies ST: Altidore

And of course our reserves will be: Feilhaber, Torres, Casey, Cherundolo, Guzan

I've gotta say I'm not sure what the appeal of Conor Casey is either.

Please no Bornstein. It will probably be just a repeat of the Confed cup back four with Demerit in the middle and Boca on the left, I worry a bit about Mexico's speed with that lineup though. I wouldn't mind Cherundolo on the right, Gooch and Demerit in the middle and Spector on the left. That won't happen though, if it did it would be Gooch and Boca in the middle as Boca's gonna always start even though I'm not sure he should.

We will almost certainly see Clark and Bradley in the middle to start. Clark as an all out defensive mid and Bradley as a bit of a box to box type center mid. Feilhaber to come in late. I'm glad he brought Holden, if I had seen Sacha instead of Holden I would have been highly annoyed, Holden's just better, period.

Anyway I feel pretty sure it will be this

    Spector Gooch Demerit Boca
    Dempsey Bradley Clark Donovan
    Altidore Davies

With Benny to come in for Jozy or Davies with Clint moving up front. If were behind Benny might replace Clark and Holden for Clint who will move up. I actually don't mind that, my confidence in Benny and Holden, especially Benny, has skyrocketed over the last couple months. Possibly Ching too if were behind.

I think Clint is coming into his own (I always think of Beavis and Butthead when I say coming into his own) a bit, I watched a stream of Fulham's game in the Europa league and the other team was a bit crap but Dempsey was clearly Fulham's best attacking player and he was one of their best last year. He actually looks like he can cross the ball now, before that was one of the things missing. Now I'm not sure what's missing, he can dribble, strong in the air, good passer, great touch, good long distance shot with both feet. Of course I know what's missing really, big time speed. If he was faster he almost certainly wouldn't be at Fulham anymore, as it is he's one of their top 3 or 4 players and could move on to an Everton type team.

And Donovan's at his peak. Things looking ok although I'm always a bit wary playing at Azteca.

I figured Cooper won a spot by being a striker who could actually SCORE a goal if need be.

If we had a fit Eddie Johnson who played up to his potential then there would be no need to discuss Ching/Cooper/Casey.

Torres had better get playing time if our midfield tires out due to the altitude

Well Mexico won, man did they ever have to work hard at that though, it was up hill all match long, Mexico just couldn't get any of the calls their way.....

I have had enough of Mexico and Mexicans....you can all go fuck off! That match was a fucking disgrace, little bitch ass Mexican players droppin and diving all over the pitch and then when a US player is legitimately hurt 3 of those motherfuckers try and force him to his feet and then after our players interfere with them a Mexican player tries to choke one of the US players and a red card was never shown.

The next time the US and Mexico play here in the US I hope they play in Philadelphia on Free Beer and Free Battery night so those little bastards for El Tri can see a violent Pro-American crowd. Or better yet we'll just steal away some of my fellow Republicans from these Healthcare Town Hall meetings.

I thought we played like crap personally and were lucky to even be in the game. Bad passes, traps, no patience, no movement w/o the ball, consistently losing 50/50 balls and we couldn't seem to clear it out to our guys. Better basic execution and I think we at least earn a tie.

I'm over it, I didn't really expect a win there and we're fine as far as qualifying goes. The ref was horrible but really that's to be expected at Azteca. And lets face it all the yellow's we got we earned. Still the problem lied with us, I know in a game like that were not going to have the majority of the possession, that's not even the plan but we gave the ball away far too easily at times. Even with all that said if Charlie Davies (who right know is our best striker IMO) just doesn't misjudge that great cross from Stewart Holden late in the second half then who knows what happens. Oh well we will get them when they come back to the US (whenever that is).

Should Boca even be out there? Make Landon the captain and make Boca earn his place. Our left back situation is horrible.

    Boca was really bad.
Michael Bradley Jr. was as bad as I've ever seen him and here's the problem with having the father of a player being coach. I never bought into the nepotism argument for the most part, Michael deserved to be on the team, but he never gets subbed. He was horrible yesterday, when they brought in Benny it should have been for him, not Rico.
Landon was pretty bad outside of the goal but I guess that gives him a pass.

The God Damn refs were HORRIBLE! How did we get 4 yellows to Mexico's 1 which that bastard apparently earned by trying to force Charlies Davies to his feet when he was hurt and THEN choking Benny Feilhaber who also got carded for no good reason other than he was protecting his teammate from 3 Mexican thugs.....yeah unlike you guys when we get injured we're REALLY injured.

It must have been a real surprise to the coach, the players, and the fans of Mexico that they were able to pull off such a grand upset without having one of our players sent off.

Yeah the US allowed Mexico to control pace for long stretches of time, but it's about time our guys stepped up and played their best in a hostile environment.

First of all juzz because people "fans/players" are assholes somewere else doesn't mean you have to come to the forum and be an asshole to people of Mexican heritage by saying "Fuck Mexico"
and second what does that video have to do with the game that was played yesterday?

All of the cards given wer legit.

"protecting his teammate from 3 Mexican thugs"? talking out of your ass there man.

yeh and you think beign slide tackled by a guy who is a foot taller than you and at least 40-50 pounds heavier dnt hurt?

you guys lost the ball like half the time and werent settin a pace and were very sloppy...IMO the US dint play their best game yesterday.

and about your "Grand upset" Mexico like US last game dint have their best team and this time the US did and you still lost i think thts why you are mad.

all our cards were legit but there were 2-3 instances where Mexico should have gotten cards too and they didn't. Some bizarre calls overall.

The ref just had no control over the game. Nery Castillo was only on for what 30 minutes and how many altercations did he get into? 3? Dude's out of control, period.

I mean Charlie Davies had to come off for fucks sake. Fucking ridiculous. I don't see how our guys kept their temper with Nery and the 2 other guys mugging him. I would have fucking chinned him and gotten tossed out of the game

I apologize for being negative about Landon Donovan, he has swine flu, that's as good a reason to be subpar as any I guess.
