What's the actual structure of the tournament?
First i thought that they all fought each other in group stage, but Froch has said after dirrel his other group fights are Kessler then Abraham. How does that work? that only leaves two others in other group.
Also, as champs, surely Froch and Kessler should have been kept apart in group stage?

they all compete in 3 fights, 2 points for a win, 1 bonus for a KO

The top 4 go through to the semis with 1v4 and 2v3 with the 2 winners going on to the grand final.

From what im aware the groupings were completely random

ok, so they have 3 fights each, i know Froch's 3 are Dirrell, Kessler, Abraham. But what other fights are scheduled? What are Taylor's 3 for instance? It would have been fairer to have them all fight eachother, but obviously this would have made the whole thing last a lot longer.

The tournament is scheduled to begin with a split-site doubleheader on Oct. 10. In England, Froch will face Dirrell and in Germany, Abraham will face Taylor.
On Nov. 7, probably in Oakland, Kessler will defend against Ward. Other matches include Abraham against Dirrell in January in the U.S.; Froch against Kessler in March in Europe; Ward against Taylor in spring 2010 in the U.S.; Ward facing his Olympic teammate in summer 2010 in the U.S.; Froch against Abraham in summer 2010 in Europe; and Kessler against Taylor in the U.S. in fall 2010.
The semifinals would take place in January 2011 with the final to be held in the U.S. in May or June.

So-
Froch's 3 are - Dirrell, Kessler, Abraham
Kessler's are - Ward, Froch, Taylor
Abraham's are - Taylor, Dirrell, Froch
Taylor's are - Abraham, Ward, Kessler
Ward's are - Kessler, Taylor, Dirrell
Dirrell's are - Froch, Abraham, Ward

hmm, i do think Froch has it a bit tougher than Kessler, Abraham is a real danger.

Taylor has it the worst

Actually I think Froch's competition is pretty tough, wouldn't be shocked if he lost all three of those...at least Taylor gets Ward who is a little bit of a green fighter with little power

If that is correct it looks like Talor and Froch have the hardest first round. They both have to fight Kessler and Abreham.
