As the title says, what are some decent laptops in that price range? My girlfriend and I have decided that we need another comptuer.

that is a pretty solid price range..
Newegg.com - Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, Digital Cameras and more!
cheapest shit.. i buy all my parts/friends parts there.. ask me anything you'd like if you have any questions.
After years of buying the usual bigger names like Hewlett,Compaq etc I bought a cheap package from K Mart and added a second memory card and additional hard drive and it still runs perfectly after 3 years.
I think as long as you buy it somewhere reputable and it has a good warranty then the branding is just a preference. I know over here you can buy a decent laptop from Aldi for about 700 and its normally 2gb memory and 160gb hard drive.
Just shop around and remember to ask for a cash discount idf that's how you're paying.
What is the minimum screen size I should be looking for? The stupid fucking Futureshop site has the laptops divided by screen size...
I know it's Walmart, but how does these look to you guys? I really know very little about laptops having never owned one and I'm obviously reticent to trust a salesperson.

Of the three desktop PC's I have my favourite is the Acer, runs smooth with no problems. Have had performance issues in the past with Dell.
The Acer you listed looks like a nice deal.
The Acer has a much bigger screen and is a more powerful machine.. i really wouldn't worry about brand names, so long as they are a credible name.. acer has been in the game a while and i wouldn't hesitate to purchase anything from them.. my desktop is a Lenovo, which is an IBM brand and it's a beast.. if you can find a lenovo laptop it may be worth while.. but that acer is a nice laptop for the price.
Ah, I somehow managed to miss the fact that it was a desktop in your original post. I've been looking at some Lenovo laptops, but the cheap ones seem to be a bit underpowered according to the CNET reviews I've read. The 1.3GHz processor seems to be a major issue. I have no idea what kind of processor I should be looking for though.
For notebooks, buy one with intel atom n280 processor. I don't know if there are quadcore processor for laptops.
I'm using an acer notebook now and so far so good. I've heard from friends that the lcd monitor of acer laptops have problems.
I would still suggest that you buy an HP or a Compaq laptop. Toshiba is also nice but it heats easily.![]()

Does this seem like a good deal for a Lenovo? It looks pretty good to me.
Lenovo - Notebook computers - ThinkPad SL Series
For the SL500, lets put it this way.. It is a nice machine, good amount of memory, average sized screen.. nice processor.. decent hard drive space.. So for the price, it is definitely a nice laptop.. If you were looking (and could) spend more, there are laptops out there with double the memory and a bigger screen.. It really all depends on what you're going to do with it.. If you're just into surfing the web, maybe do some chatting online and some word processing then that will be plenty good.
I got a nice comp (a toshiba) for under $700, try newegg.com
