    Default The NEW PS3

Not sure if you gamers know, but Sony FINALLY FINALLY, after all of the rumors, released a new PS3 with a price cut. It is a slim PS3 model, 120gb, and does everything the original did. Supposedly it's 30 something percent lighter and 30 something percent more energy efficient.

Considering I just got my new job, i was going to buy one anyway, then i was reading about a mid-August price cut, assuming it was just a rumor.. but not that they did release it, i will be a proud owner when they release this model Sept 1.

Any suggestions on games? I will purchase Fight night round 4 definitely and probably Metal Gear Solid 4, but haven't been too up to speed on the real visually wowing and other fun games to play.

Call of Duty is great for multiplayer and online, but there is a new one coming out soon.

Glad they finally made a cheaper one

They cut the price $100, to $299.

I quoted the wrong person but am too lazy to go back.

I will likewise get one, FNR4 being the first game of choice. I'm also curious to know what games others are into because there are only a few I know about.

Was just talking to my cousin.. he said besides FNR4 and Metal Gear 4.. Uncharted was great, and Uncharted 2 is coming out soon.. Infamous is some super hero game that i'm going to get from him and Killzone 2.

That along with the new Madden, will be enough fun to hold me over until God of War 3 in March of next year.

How compatible is it with older PS 1/2 games? I want to get my hands on a 60gig one, but they're so goddamn expensive. I might look into picking this one up.

The ONLY difference, besides what i've stated, from the older ps3 and the newer ps3, is that it's not backwards compatible..

Not that big of a deal though, because they dropped the price of the 80gb to $299 also.. so if you want one backwards compatible then get the older one which has also been price-cut..

to be honest, if i'm going to buy a ps3, i wanna play ps3 games.. i already have a ps2 that can play ps2 and ps1 games that i don't want.

I thought the 80 gig model wasn't as backwards compatible as the 60 gig because it doesn't have the emotion engine chip? That's what I've read anyways.

Darn, when I got my slimline PS2, I used to laugh and pity all the people who had the big bulky old model....
Now i'm going to be the one laughed at by having the giant paper weight of a first edition PS3...

Although i'm actually really excited about the new PS3 coming out even though i'm not buying one....

    Reason

The PS3 has really suffered from the high price with low sales... Low sales means less owners. Less owners means less people buying PS3 games. Less people buying PS3 games means less developers dedicating time, resources, money to developing PS3 games...
With the new console and hopefully a big buying plunge on PS3's, a lot of game companies will get their act into gear and return Playstation to it's rightful spot at the top of the console pile in regards to best gaming experience overall...

Right now the wii is doing like 5 times the sales of sony in all aspects and it means we PS3 owners aren't getting the attention that we'll hopefully get soon once this new one comes out..
