Oscar de la hoya says Marquez has the power advantage but hasnt fought over 135lbs i know Floyd isnt a big puncher but he is the bigger man and fought at higherweight than Marquez.
Whats everyone else's take on this?

I have to say mayweather because he has actually stopped someone at welterweight (hatton) and marquez is yet to fight at that weight. We dont know what kind of power marquez has brought up with him and mayweather has proven he has the power to hurt people at welterweight.
I agree. Marquez isnt a massive puncher at 135 he's got a good stong punch but he is moving up 2 divisions and i dont think he will bring all his power with him.
Mayweather's much bigger and his power is underrated... he's not a power puncher but his shots are solid and he punches with great spead and technique... so yeah... he can hurt you![]()
I think it's about timing and picking the right punches... I think the more devastating punches in this fight aren't just going to be because they were harder than the opponents but coming at the right times. If either fighter can establish a good counter attack for their opponent, their punches could do a lot more damage....
So I think regardless, it's going to be about who uses their punch power most effectively... I can't give the edge to either guy in that respect... Because that is Marquez's strength is making the most of his power, Floyd is a naturally bigger more slicker guy and has done some damage to tough opponents in the past by really timing them right..

kind of weird when you think marquez is the brawler and floyd is the speed merchant but juan actually throws the better, quicker combinations.
floyd however just doesnt miss you when he lands and is extremely good at countering combos. Juans gotta do exactly what hatton did for the 1st seven rounds and thats look to get floyd onto the ropes with every opportunity as its pretty much the only chance you get of landing on someone who has such fast reflex skills!!
one dangerous horrible bloke
Here's another way to look at it...
Since moving past 135, Floyd has stopped Bruseles, Gatti, Mitchell, and Hatton.
The first 3 were stopped because they were one-sided fights where Floyd was beating them up round after round. The Hatton KO was from that great left hook, but Floyd had softened him up for 9+ rounds.
Which of those guys could Marquez have KO'd also? I think you could at least make an argument that he could have stopped all 4.
I think Floyd is the slightly better puncher, but I don't think the gap is that big.
I think at their respective weight classes Marquez is the harder puncher. This fight I would have to say Floyd is the harder puncher.
Mayweather's power is definitely under rated.. anyone who can knock down Hatton with a single punch has decent power in my books, it's just he doesn't get alot of opportunities to use his power because of the way he fights.. but I remember watching some of his early fights where he was alot more offensive, and he had pretty solid power then.
Mayweather.
Oops
I think Marquez has the better punch for punch technique, sharp selection. But think he'll sacrifice his speed in effort to sit inside with Mayweather.Mayweather can punctuate a flurry but more often than not is equally focused on moving off and resetting unless he's 100 % convinced your through.
JMM has more power!!!
Mayweather's power comes from speed and timing, JMM's power is strength and timing...little different, but at the weight I know Floyd's is more tested.
