Do you prefer showtimes farhood and berstien or HBOs Kellerman and Merchant
Wouldn't it be better to compare Farhood and Bernstein to Lamply and Kellerman/Merchant?
Anyways, for my answer I prefer Farhood and Bernstein in terms of the quality of their play-by-play, but the HBO team is the premier boxing broadcasting group for me. They have all the intangibles on their side and when I hear them calling a fight it just seems to have more shine to me in terms of the overall package and experience. I just love hearing that group call a fight.
I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE when Lampley get's misty eyed and his voice cracks during fights.
It gives me chills.
After Lampley I prefer Kellerman.
Followed by Berstein.
Then Farhood.
I too prefer the showtime guys because they call fights more accurately but for some reason i would rather watch a fight on HBO. Im not sure why though. Maybe because they get so excited over every little thing.
Lampley's just a great announcer in a technical sense, he can help build excitement, etc. He's biased as hell though.
Farhood's ok.
Bernstein is my favorite actually and doesn't have anything to do with him doing articles for us, he's just been good for a long time.
Merchant's the man. He can piss you off with some of the stuff he says but he will be missed when he's gone.
Kellerman's horrible. I guess he has some redeeming qualities but not enough of them.
I agree with you on Bernstien. To me he by far the best. He accurate and very unbias. We admit when he's wrong also.
I like Kellerman. I not sure why so many people don't.
Merchant i wanna slap sometimes.
Lampley calls punches that weren't thrown and is extreemly bias but he has a great voice.
The Showtime people are much better, and anyway having Max Kellerman on your team means automatically you are rubbish.
Just as long as it's not GusJohnson.
“If you want loyalty, buy a dog.” Ricky Hatton
....anyone but tarver and bj flores. Those are two guys that when i see em. Down goes the volume, up goes the music. It's pretty much the same thing.
Hidden Content Click clack ! Give up the purse.........or yetti will find you.
Lampley loves to be dramatic but I think Berstein #1 knows boxing and #2 gives a good even keeled commentary on a fight
Kellerman knows about boxing but he doesn't ask very good questions
Merchant is always cheering for someone, his heart got broken when Arreola lost.
But compare those two to Jim Gray and I'll take Kellerman and Merchant ALL DAY LONG....Jim Gray is an idiot
...I wouldn't call it balls, I'd just call him an asshole.
Larry Merchant isn't afraid to ask the tough questions, but he doesn't act like a jerk when he does it.
Gray has no couth at all
i didn't see him as being an asshole at all while interviewing Froch, IMO Froch was being a smug little fucker and ignorant as hell saying "listen to the people, even they say i won", he actually said that while being in his hometown of Nottingham, and Gray followed it up with an obvious truth "of course they're gonna say you won, they're YOUR PEOPLE", Merchant thrashes people who don't deserve to be, and then goes on trying to be so deep with his last thought of the night that unless you're smoking crystal meth you wont even know what he's talking about 9 times out of 10
Larry Merchant frequently acts like a jerk. I'm no Jim Gray fan, but in the interview with Froch he got it just right.
Merchant can be controlled as well, he's basically sucked up to Oscar ever since the thing before the Whitaker fight.
In terms of who I like out of those guys, it would have to be in order
Farhood
Bernstein
Kellerman
Merchant
To be honest Merchant is the only one who pisses me off because a lot of the time he seems to think he's more important than the fighters or fight.
Still, at least none of them are Steve Bunce.
I generally prefer Showtime's coverage, no matter what it is the most balanced out there, they never cheerlead for a fighter, unlike Lampley or pretty much all British media coverage
