you are correct....there are more deserving Filipinos,in the fields of relevance like politics, science, education and what else....Why feature a boxing hero in the mags cover? What significance has MANNY done to help us poor Filipinos?
Of course he makes us proud and happy,That is all to it.
But make no mistake,I like PAC.

didn't give a shit the first time it was posted, care much less now
I did not buy that particular issue of TIME MAGAZINE.I heard the article on MANNY wasnt good at all.

They must have forgotten about another Filipino Paeng Nepomuceno -- a Guinness World Record Holder in Bowling and the first ever man to be listed in the World Bowling Hall of Fame.
I remember during the first Filipino PEOPLE POWER,then President Cory Aquino was on the cover page of TIME MAGAZINE.That one made me proud cos Pres Cory then was a symbol of peace and democracy worldwide. The magnitude of Pres Cory's doings were encompassing. On the other hand ;boxing is only a sport.
This thing of MANNY on the cover of TIME MAG is an insult to the present administration of the Philippine govt.I guess only Filipinos comprehend what im driving at.

I'm happy that Time Magazine put Pac in their cover. I'm not convinced that there's any Filipino more worthy than Pac in the time magazine as of the moment.
You talk of people from Politics more deserving than Pac? I guess, you're not really Filipino ( or not living in the Philippines) coz if you are, you'd never mention politics.
I can't think of any Filipino who has made a buzz in the international community as much as Pac. If you know someone, please educate me.
Pac deserved it whether you're happy or not. FACT.![]()

Yeah, the present administration needs to be insulted and Time Magazine did it well.
The administration of Gloria is full of scandals and corruption and it's TIME that it be insulted. I just don't know if Gloria still feels some shame coz the way i see it, she's already callous when it comes to insult.I also guess that only real Filipinos know what I'm talking about.

I may be wrong about mentioning politics as an area where we excel right now.But there are promising politicians in the horizon.I wont name them now,cos i might be wronged again. On the topic of Pacquiao in the cover of TIMES magazine;it is your prerogative to have such a point of view. But for myself,i rather not see Manny on the cover of the said mag.
I want the Philippines to be recognized in such other culturally and intelectual aspect. We are now known as the country of maids,do you still want us to be known as a country of boxers?Im not saying MANNY is not reputable,i am talking of boxing in its entirety.
I hope you dont get me wrong.I am living in the Philippines right now.

I for one think no other Filipino is more deserving than Pacquiao at this moment in Time. It's a big fight and makes history in boxing if he wins. You may not have felt Pacquiao's help directly but there are hundreds of school children and hundreds of others that have. He's probably helped more poor than Arroyo. Just bringing the worlds attention alone to the plight of the poor brings money in donations and that has significance.
It's off topic but I'll give you an example of your statement. Melchor M. Tayamen, Head of the Fresh water fisheries. This guy is simple humble guy that created a new bread of Tilapia (fish) that grows in just 3 months rather than the 4.5 to 5 months normally. This kind of achievement is profound and your politicians have done nothing to recognize it. Arroyo even showed her face to take credit rather than hold the guy up for his work. IMO Pacquiao does more for the Philippines as a boxer than he ever will as a politician but it remains to be seen.
So there are promising politicians, I agree with that but the question is, are they more deserving that Pacquiao?
Pacquaio gives HOPE to many Filipinos and that is why TIME honored him.
Yes we are known as a country of maids and servants but boxing is different. It's a sport. It's like when an athlete win gold in the olympics, that athlete's country rejoices with him.
When Phelps won 8 golds in the Olympics, his country was proud of it. With Pac in the cover of Time because of his accomplishments as an athlete, why can't you also be proud of it?![]()
