Default Boxing Preview: Miguel Cotto vs. Manny Pacquiao

Miguel Cotto defends his WBO welterweight title tonight against challenger Manny Pacquiao in a hotly anticipated clash at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, NV.

Pacquiao, 49-3-2 (37), comes into the bout riding a four year, 10 bout win streak at super feather, lightweight and light welter with the most recent victory coming against Ricky Hatton for the IBO 140 lb crown in May.

Cotto, 34-1 (27), a former WBO light welter and WBA welter champ, has bounced back from his sole career defeat to Antonio Margarito last year to win the vacant WBO welter crown against Michael Jennings and then defend in a difficult contest against Joshua Clottey in June.

If Cotto is to win this clash he will have to come into the ring as a fundamentally different fighter than he has shown himself to be in the past, and that is not likely to happen.

The difference between the two combatants in this bout will be Pacquiao’s movement and ring generalship, backed up with his incredible stamina and power in both hands.

Cotto’s fundamentals as a fighter are stron... Full Boxing Article here...

Man I can't wait till Cotto dominates Pacquiao and shows everyone that Pacquiao has no buissness with a true welterweight... I assume all the pac nut huggers will come up with excuses though.. like how camp fights distracted pac.. perhaps the typhoons or something idk... I can't wait till Cotto humbles Pac he is a bit over his head...

Thats tonight? I totally forgot about this fight thanks for the reminder. I think Pac is too damn fast to be counted out of this. Cotto's boxing ability may pull it out for him. I gotta go with Pac in a close fight that will have controversy as to who the clear winner was.

It's a technicality, but i'm realising now that it's a little unfair for Cotto's Welterweight belt and title to be on the line when the fight isn't even at Welterweight....

I know these been a fair bit of discussion on this early on, and I was actually thinking it wasn't too bad, but now I think of all the guys who fight at Welterweight who work for a title, and someone can come in, demand to fight at 145 and take the belt if they win... But that's life and if it helped make this fight happen then I am certainly not complaining..

Can't wait for this fight!!! I have a firefox window open with the live Las Vegas time so I don't forget about the time and miss any of the show..
