Default So what do you lads reckon' Owen on the English squad?

Got a hat trick today and has been playing well.

You guys reckon he'll be part of the squad?

For me Mick we got to take him , he is a big impact player of the bench ( for England ), and as he proved for Man U last night he can still score goals.
Someone like Emile Heskey isnt a good enough finisher , and thats what strikers are supposed to do .

For England, Gerrard and Rooney seem to have an amazing understanding. Stick Owen in the mix and you have one hell of a dynamic.

Besides, Owen is still up there with Defoe as one of England's most prolific poachers.

Deffo mins/goals ratio was put up on tv today and here was the order of all the English strikers:

    Defoe
    Owen
    Bent
    Rooney
    Cole
    Crouch
    Heskey

Its either 4 or 5 from them

    Mine would be

    Rooney
    Defoe
    Owen
    Cole

If we take a fifth id take Crouch over Heskey cos he can actully score goals, Heskey is the worst by some margain like one goal in every 4.8 games he plays. Bents on fire but I feel its either him or Defoe and Defoe for me.

If he`s fit and on form then you`d be a mug not to take him.

But lets be honest now, give it another month or two and you know he`s gonna be crocked again. Ive always been a fan of owen, natural goalscorer with brilliant pace and an eye for goal. But could you seriously take the risk on him as one of your 4 strikers knowing he could break down any minute?

If i was the FA id be taking 5strikers if owen is fit with rooney, defoe, crouch and cole as your other 4
    one dangerous horrible bloke

    Most Strikers go for Goal.

    Heskey goes for the Team

I think it's too soon to decide if we should take him. I want to see how he plays for the next 5-6 months and then decide. But without a doubt a fit/focussed Michale Owen is about as good a goal threat as you could hope for.

My opinion on Heskey is that he is a worse finisher than Douglas Bada and not a particularly good footballer at all, BUT.......he does perform a valuable role for the team and whomever he plays with seems to play better when he is next to them. My concern is that against teams like Brazil and Spain we will get very few chances and chances are that one of these will land to Heskey and I have no confidence in him putting the chances away.

    At the moment I'd take

Rooney - No need to explain
Defoe - No need to explain
Crouch - Provides a different option, can't argue with his scoring record, even if it is against weaker teams - not his fault that he has only played/started against weaker teams

Then I'd say either Bent, Cole or Heskey (2 of these 3 if Owen doesn't go)

and Owen (if he proves himself)

PS - If we are looking for somebody to perform that unselfish forward role a la Heskey, I don't think there is anybody better than Kevin Davies that position - but he aint a fashionable choice

i have a feeling we could see walcott playing with rooney up front if he stays injury free, Wenger has said he is going to start playing him there.

Walcott is shite, he shouldnt even be going he plays well about 10 % of the time and is always injured, I remember fat man Matt Le Tissier say on soccer saturday when he first burst onto the scene this lad will have a better career than Giggs .

SWP Lennon both go before Walcott imo.

Agreed on Walcott, loads of talent, but just doesn't produce often enough. He's also too weak for top flight football, he will spend at least 50% of his career injured.

Lennon still doesn't do enough for 90 minutes week in week out for me, great flashes of brilliance, buit few and far between. His final ball has improved, but still not enough.

SWP isn't the same player he was a few years ago.

I'd definitelty taker Beckham as an impact player, I think Milner is our best and most versatile winger at the moment and Ashley Young still has time to get into the squad.

My team (if the world cup was tomorrow and these guys weren't injured)

    ----------Green-----------

    Johnson Terry Ferdinand Cole

    Milner Lampard Barry Joe Cole

    ----------Gerard -----------

    ----------Rooney-----------

    Lampard is crap

You would be fools not to have Owen play. The US side has more pressing concerns about Striker though

Would you play Owen over Defoe? Wouldn't they kind of play a similar role when they're out on the soccer pitch
