What do you mean by folding? Bringing your upper body down? Any type of defense is ok as long as it works and your not leaving your head open

There is a folding arm way where you block with the glove at a reasonable distance then replace your glove with your same fore arm and elbow as they come forward so that you are in full contact short range but still have his arm in check.

Is that what you mean bringing them further into range, safely?

There is the book by the us naval institute titled boxing. In it it states folding is "dropping forward, hands high, so that the blow is either slipped or taken on the top of the head. It is a method if getting close enough to start the attack without taking any serious punishment."
