Default Survey about the process of becoming and being a professional boxer

I'm doing a research project on the process of becoming a professional and being a professional boxer.
As boxing forums is often where fellow boxing enthusiasts reside, I thought, why not go here and ask some questions, so here they go! :-)

How did you get into boxing or/and what made you start boxing?

How does your typical day start?

How many times do you go to the gym?

What is (accordingly to you) the most important part of being a boxer?

How much does a good boxer dedicate himself and how much do you dedicate yourself to the sport?

What is the best part about boxing?

What did/do you sacrifice to become the boxer you're today?

Who is your favorite boxer and why?

I know there's a couple of questions, but I sincerely hope you will take the time to answer it, no answer is dumb or too short..
And if you want to, you can leave me your full name in a private message if you want to be cited on it, if not, I will cite you on your screen name. :-)

    Peace out. :-)

I'm not a professional boxer but I am training to become one, so I thought I would share my experience as well.

How did you get into boxing or/and what made you start boxing?

As a kid I got bullied a lot, and one day when I was walking home from school, some guys thought it would be funny to start beating me up. After a little bit of that I was pushed and fell into a guy, who was a boxer. He helped me by simply asking if the guys had nothing better to do than to beat up someone younger and weaker than them, when they attacked him instead he just dodged their punches and they ran off, he then took me to the gym where he was boxing and I've been boxing ever since.

How does your typical day start?

Eat breakfast and do some light rope jumping. Later on around 6 I do my warmup, workout, and then shadowbox for around 10mins after. In total takes about 2 hours including weight lifting.

How many times do you go to the gym?

Twice a week, tuesday and wednesday.

What is (accordingly to you) the most important part of being a boxer?

Think fast and stay calm, I find if you can stay calm during a match you are more aware of the mistakes your opponent makes and are able to react faster and take control. Making quick decisions during a match can sometimes change the entire match itself, so being a quick thinker, is an important thing to me.

How much does a good boxer dedicate himself and how much do you dedicate yourself to the sport?

I've seen pro boxers go close to insanity because of weight control sometimes, since some boxers go down 1 or more weight classes below their normal weight, and it takes a lot of dedication to keep wanting to put themselves trough that everytime they have a match.

I was lucky enough to have my normal weight fit right into Welterweight so all I have to do is keep eating like usual and usually never have to worry about my weight. But I've already decided to dedicate myself to the sport until I'm no longer fit to box because of whatever might happen.

What is the best part about boxing?

The friendship and trust with everyone in your gym, I've made friends that will be around for the rest of my life and I know I can trust them completely no matter what might happen. Let's not forget winning either, that's definitely one of the best parts too haha.

What did/do you sacrifice to become the boxer you're today?

Cheeseburgers... Haha, but really, just some simple junk food and a little free time. But if I'm training for a match, I sacrifice all my free time to training, not even my girlfriend is able to get me to go out if I have a match coming up. After I turn professional, I'll probably have to sacrifice a lot more.

Who is your favorite boxer and why?

William Harrison "Jack" Dempsey. He was a pretty small heavyweight, but still managed to become World Heavyweight Champion. Watching his matches inspire me to keep training and become stronger and faster.

    Nick Maiberg

Hope this helped in one way or another with your project.

It did Nick, it's interesting finding out about how different boxers (professional or amateur) began to box, always a different story behind each one. Thanks. :-)
You'll be cited in the report under Nick Maiberg, if that's okay with you.
Can I ask you, which country do you come from? :-)

Other people are more than welcome to answer these questions as well, if you feel like sharing that is.

I'm still in Denmark, in Lolland, starting an education but focusing on boxing as I want that as my career, even though it's a high risk one. Added your Gmail, hope you're up for a more thorough interview for example, I'd love to help you more.

Come on guys, help with the survey, it only takes a few minutes.
