Default Roadwork - Sprint or Jog?

Hi, I just wanted to ask whether or not I should do my roadwork through a series of sprints or just jogging.

I've heard that doing sprints will build up my explosiveness and is also a high intensive workout which is perfect for shedding that excess weight and is comparable to a round in boxing.

But I've also heard that jogging also boosts your stamina and build up your lower body

I also wanted to ask whether or not I should do my roadwork on the street or on the treadmill, as I'm prone to getting shin splints and the last time I tried doing my roadwork on the streets I got heavy shin splints and couldn't run for 2 weeks, but I'm pretty sure that was because I just resumed training and suddenly put too much pressure on my shins.

So yeah, it would be awesome if any of you could provide me with your suggestions and thanks

Sprint outdoors, with a good pair of running trainers.

Do both, I do it like this for my roadwork. 20 Second jog, 10 second sprint, repeat for the entire roadwork.

heheh... well yeah, if you only sprinted then your road work would last about 15 seconds and you'd be finished!

The whole point of sprinting is that it can't be maintained!

When I run outside I have to have sprint at certain times. If I am running around a football pitch I will sprint the width.

I have been going on the cross trainer where I cannot sprint and it has given me good stamina I have noticed I have lost sprint speed.

Got a Phone call 2 weeks later Him Telling me He had run 10 miles a day and could I come and pick Him up as He had reached Manchester .

Best to target both aerobic and anerobic energy systems.
I think most people normally alternate between longer endurance type runs and short distance sprint type work.Or like someone else said combine the two into the one session. It should depend on what specific event you are training for but it is good to mix in all different distances with varying intensitys.
