Default Beckham ruptures achilles tendon (out of world cup)

Not that i think he would of made the 24 man squad anyway

BBC Sport - Football - David Beckham set to miss World Cup with injury

Shame really, would be quite surprised if he doesnt announce his retirement from profesional football within the next few months

I feel really sorry for the guy! He was desperate to make the squad and was prepared to fly back and forward from L.A just to play in meaningless friendlies to boost his chances. He has worked so hard to stay in shape/form to be considered, it's a cruel blow for the guy

I would've taken him all day long, nobody in the world delivers a ball better than he does even now and that would be a great ption to have on the bench. I know we have a tonne of right sided midfielders, but I'm not sold on any of them

Wright-Philips - Not good enogh at highest level
Walcott - Not strong enough/ to injury prone/ to inconsistent
Lennon - Still doesn't have the final ball( even if he has improved that side of his game) A great option to bring on after an hour imo

Personally, I'd play Milner there, the guy is quality!!

completely agree with that H, youve redeemed yourself in my eyes from last weeks jab at my hammers

Many a footballer would of winced out the moment they got a contract to play on another continent and declared themselves unavailable for international selection. He wasnt even getting a game yet was still flying thousands of miles to sit on a bench in andorra/kazhakstan etc

David Beckham could sure as hell teach the likes of carragher, scholes, shearer a thing or two about commitment and for that alone will always have a place in england fans hearts

    It's only a 23 man squad mate.

Losing Beckham is a loss. None of England's other wingers offer the same threat. Milner or Bentley are the closest. Everyone else is largely a nippy little winger with shit delivery (Ashley Young excepted).

Beckham actually had a warrior's game last night. He got kicked in the face early on & was flowing claret.

Although he was overshadowed by this injury-time stunner from Clarence Seedorf, easily one of the best & most underrated players of the last 15 years

Shame for Becks, as he showed against us at Old Trafford last week he is a threat maybe not over 90 mins but as an impact player.

I think that makes Walcott a cert now.

My squad as I think Capello will pick:

    Green
    James
    Hart

    Johnson
    Lescott
    Terry
    Ferdinand
    Upson
    A Cole
    Baines

    Walcott
    Lennon
    Lampard
    Barry
    Carrick
    Gerrard
    Milner
    J Cole

    Rooney
    Heskey
    Defoe
    Crouch
    C Cole

Joe Cole might not go as he is not having the best of seasons but his experience and he can play a few posistions mite make the difference.
yeah thats pretty much the squad id take, the only reservations being id definitely keep an eye on bent at sunderland who is a far greater risk up top than heskey. Also id keep a close eye on joe coles fitness and wouldnt rule out either ashley young or shaun wright phillips

I agree there mate but I think Capello likes Heskey to much, he is wank and I would have bent in there instead.
