Default I Hate Pound for Pound rankings

P4P is the most pointless subjective bullshit ever, how does it work? I mean is it who would win head 2 head if they were the same size? or is it who is the most skilled? who has the best achievements? I hate to use these two as an example but Floyd and Pac are now the same "Size" as both last fought at 147, but Floyd is favorite to win if they fight so how can Pac be P4P 1? Who remembers when Mijares was on the P4P list he got destroyed by Vic Darchiniyan they were both the same size and a consensus agreed nonsensical rating was proven wrong.

Ricky Hatton was P4P when he couldn't even move up one weight and remain effective so why was he on the list ahead of day Wlad? who despite being a Heavyweight and being boring is blatantly a more skilled boxer than Hatton ever was. is this just because of the notion that Heavies can't be P4P? I mean I just wish that the whole bullshit P4P obsession in boxing would fuck off and die.

I was under the impression that it was boxings version of the All-Star game. Not exactly like, but in the spirit of a Pro Bowl.

They're good for generating debate and discussion, but that's about it. Like Piye says, they're far too subjective to really have any credibility and there is no rigid definition of what constitutes a P4P fighter or why one is ranked above another. At this point they seem to be little more than a marketing/promotional tool for fighters.

I like them it is just the way people tend to make their list is a bit off....Pretty much most true fans, writers etc who actually KNOW WHATY THE FUCK THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT AND CAN NREFRAIN FROM BEING FANBOYS AND NUTHUGGERS...ACCEPT IF THIER FAVORITE IS NOT ELIGABLE FOR THE LIST AND CAN GET THROUGH THEIR HEADS THERE MIGHT BE ANOTHER FIGHTER OUT THERE BETTER THEN THEY ARE AND NOT ACT AS IF IT IS PERSONAL AND BECAUSE SOMEONE ELSE DECIDES A FIGHTER IS BETTER THEN THEIR FAVORITE IT IS NOT A FUCKING CONSPIRICY OR PERSONAL INSULT AT THEM....The ratings should pretty much be the same on everyones list with slight exceptions at the bottom of the list and a few place differences..EG on fighters ranks fighyter a at 1st another ranks them 3rd but both are ranked on each list with in a few spots of each other..

Or maybe guys around 9 or 10 may be at 11 or 12 and the 11 or 12th guy is at 9 or 10...

BUT it seems that toom many people throw out these crazy figures and have some of the stupidest fucking reasoning for the rankings....

Keep it according to last performance

Last 5 fighters faced as in quality of the opponent.. if they bare in a division where it is weak but they are a good fighter sorry but fact is it should be based on performance not on what might be...

List it according to activity...Sorry but if a fighter beats the #2 ranked guy then fights no one for 18 months but another guy beats the #3, #4, and #5 guy during that time...The guy who beat the #2 guy does not deserve the be rated higher then the guy who beat #3 #4 #5...can not rest on past performances until the career is over...If that was the case...SRR would have been ranked #1 WW going until his death makes about as much sense....

and a few other things similar...but like I said these guys get so crazy with why amd mhow they rank fighters it makes the whole thing just sickning at times

p4p lists for me are just popularity contests. and also for "bragging right" especially for those who have little to cheer about!

Have always thought them pretty useless, sort of a gawdy crown attached to the hottest and most lucrative network star, much more so now and especially at the lower half. The title has seemingly replaced the impact of 'world champion' label.Way to subjective and no clear definition.

I don't mind them. They just shouldn't be taken as gospel. If a certain guy isn't ranked where someone thinks he should be who cares. The pfp ratings after the no 1 spot don't mean anything anyway. It's just another opnion just like all the others floating around this sport.

Good opinions, so who would you say has the 'definitive' P4P list? and who created the term? As I'd like to find this person and kill them.

Fact is the best fighter in the world is the Heavyweight champ of the world as he would smash any one in a lower weight pretty much without doubt. That is why it has always been boxing's premier division I think this whole P4P non sense is in place to distract people from the fact we probably only have three good heavyweights in the Klits and Haye and the Klits won't fight each other and Haye seems to be avoiding them. as previously and whilst growing up the biggest star in boxing has always been the heavy champ now it's the 'P4P Champ'

Wasn't the term created for Robinson? I think The Ring mag might have started the P4P rankings but can't be sure.

I don't really mind P4P lists, but am really more concerned with divisional ratings...

Pound for Pound ranking is great as long you don't put too much importance in it. I found it interesting how analysts rate the boxers, and you're free to agreed with him or just go read another Pound for Pound ranking that fit your way of thinking.

That ranking is also one of the reason that help a giga-fight like Mayweather/Pacquiao to be so popular.

I find it's a nice feature that is easy to ignore.

Easy to ignore? it's a term that's constantly thrown around put in fight titles, ring announcements and it's all a load of shit. the whole concept does not make sense, Pound for Pound? if a fighter gains or loses weight it usually effects there performance detrimentally.

P4P best can not be proven and is purely hypothetical. Even a super accurate computer simulated model is a guess because of the psychological part of the game. This is exactly why pitting Mayweather against Pacquiao is so intriguing. I said it before, P4P may have no official title or belt or but it does have tangible value.

So ya, I agree there is plenty of reason to hate the P4P rankings of present day fighters, but there is plenty of reason to appreciate it as well.

Why did Henry Armstrong, Roy Jones, Sugar Ray Leonard, Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquaio all fight above their weight class? Was the Money or to be crowned the best?
