    Default Please give me some feedback on my mittwork (video included)

    Hello everyone.
    I've been reading this forum for a while now but I just recently joined.
    I'm 37 and I've been practicing boxing for about 7 months now. I really want to improve as I have 0 fights. I'm a stickler for detail and will not compete until I feel that I'm 100% prepeared, so please feel free to pick me apart and give me suggestions.

    From this video I think that my posture is sometimes not correct, as I'm leaning too much for the straight cross. I also think my chin and head are maybe a bit too close to my sternum thus sacrificing oral stability.
    Maybe the left hand too close to my chin, and my stance a bit too open (whole body facing my opponent).

    For 7 months youre doing okay, considering age and condition. Posture could be better. It doesnt matter to me but, Id like to see more foot movement while defending, instead of trying to slip all the time for show.

    I do agree with you about the footwork.
    Correct me if I'm wrong but I have recently discovered that if my torso stays centered and doesn't lean its easier to stay on the balls of the feet and thus be faster defending using footwork.
    Also with the chin back it's helluva a lot easier to breathe.
    I was amazed how big of a difference those little things made.

    You will find its the feet being to wide, which is the reason the Torso is reaching. Plus if the Head moves in any direction without the feet, youre of balance, and will go back to where you were as regards the Head. Making the target area easy to read.

    Im afraid they are, thats why you are compensating with the shoulders. Plus the lower back is tigtening up because of it.

    You sir must be the Sparta of trainers!!! You're 100% correct!!
    I trained today with my feet closer together and wow......More speed, accuracy, mobility, better posture and breathing.

    Should the back foot be directly beneath the bottom? Feels very narrow stance-wise but certainly gives you added spring.

    It depends on the stance, the lower you go the wider the stance. Normal to me, in line with the back shoulder, it gives more options with the legs and feet.

    You look very good. Very athletic and sharp. I like your work on slipping because it builds your coordination even if it's not something you would use in a real fight. Sooner or later, you will need that skill--especially when your feet get tired or you're cornered.

    Now if I had to be real critical and look at stuff that might cost you big in fights, here they are:
    - the jab is too hard. relax it and let it come out with relaxed speed
    - you need to pivot harder with your right foot when you pivot the right hand. by pivoting harder, i mean that the heel swings all the way over. this will add a ton of power. I'm sure you already know this but people get lazy with it over time.
    - your right hands are still bending from the waist... instead, you should bend your front knee "dropping" your weight into the right hand punches. again, it adds wayyyyy more power
    - DON'T drop your right hand when you throw the left hook. if your opponent is trading left hooks with you, you'll get dropped or KO'ed for sure
    - more sharper, explosive breathing


    Good points:
    - awesome slipping. you keep your head down, and eyes on opponent the whole time.
    - very relaxed snappy transition from punch to punch
    - knees always bent
    - very clean crisp combinations
    - sharp punch retractions, no lazy arms

    Not bad at all for 7 months.

    All I'm going to say is that often when jabbing you seem to have a habbit of lifting your arm from the shoulder and then pushing from your elbow - rather than firing it out from the hip and letting the punch unwind down the pipe.
