Harrison apparently landed only a jab in the fight. The first sign of trouble and the white flag was being waved. A total farce. I am disgusted that the fight was ever made in the first place simply because I like to see champions in meaningful fights. As simple as that. I'm not all that annoyed though as I knew this would happen and I stayed in bed rather than get up riduculously early to watch it. And part of me is looking at those who are pissed off at having paid for it with a tongue stuck right out and a 'told you so' look on my face. Those kinds of people should have known better, more so if they have any respect for the sport of boxing.
Paying to watch that means it will happen again in the future. The only way to resist is to refuse to take part and tell everyone else not to partake as well. Margarito doesn't really deserve his shot, but let's not compare Margarito and Audley. They are totally different beasts. Margarito won't fall quite that easily.
If it was a pointless fight it wouldn't have been packed to the rafters with even Lennox Lewis, Frank Bruno, Nigel Benn,
Rio Ferdinand etc ringside to watch it.
It was made because people WANTED to see it. Nobody forced people to go or get the PPV, everyone was curious about the fight and it would have been commercially foollish for either fighter to not fight this fight.
I hate David Haye still, but I don't begrudge him taking this fight, I would have too had I been him. And EVERYONE has been talking about it and probably watched it, no matter what they said.
Next month Wladimir Klitschko faces off against the 14 fight novice Derek Chisora. When you look at the recent opponents of both Klitschko brothers you can hardly accuse Haye of facing subpar opposition.
The fact is that had David Haye not faced Audley Harrison, one of the Klitschko's almost certainly would have anyway. Chisora's only win of note is beating British prizefighter champ Sam Sexton, Albert Sosnowski got a shot for beating Danny Williams, and Audley was another Prizefighter winner and European champ.
He deserved his shot as much as any of those guys above.
Haye destroyed him, he should get credit for that.
