Thread: Amateur, semi pro and PRO

Just want to now how it will work and how many fights needed to go up a class etc can u talk me through how i would go about gettin to pro through amateur, semi pro to PRO be much appreciated........

I don't know if there is a semi-pro to be honest I've never heard of it. Alot of people stay amateur until they've built up a good record, got good experience and feel they're ready to step up to pro and make some money. If you've won competitions as an amateur it will open up more door for you as a pro. Where-as some people hardly have amateur careers at all, I know pro boxers who have had only 5 amateur bouts before turning pro. Some pro's in other countries never boxed amateur. The thing a lot of people get confused with (people who don't know much about boxing) is they think its like football where if you're not good enough to go pro you box amateur, this isn't the case, there are a lot of amateurs who could go and be good pros but they want to build their record like I said earlier. Another thing really taking off over here now is white collar boxing. It used to be seen as two old blokes out the office having a tear up (hence the name white collar) but a lot of ex-amateurs who for one reason or the other havn't gone pro are doing it to make money as the pay isn't too bad for 3 2 minute rounds and you're fighting on a regular basis. There are also ex-pros doing it and still the people who havn't boxed amateur or pro at all but are decent because of white collar gyms popping up everywhere.
