    Default Bees/ Wasps

Just come back from a day out with the kids, walked through the front door and there is this huge buzzing sound, almost a rumbling.

Step further into the house and in the kitchen diner it is full of them. Not sure if they were bees or wasps, but there were shit loads of them. 40-50 at least. All sat buzzing away on the patio door.

Luckily I'd had a couple beers at
    lunch and was feeling particularly
manly, so I ushered the mrs and
kids upstairs and set to work with
only a news paper and a tin of
    hairspray for defence. After about
30 mins they were all gone.

I'm not a big fan of them at all, so it
was a kind of face your fear
moment. What pickles me though is
how the fuck did they get in?

They can't have been here all along
because I'd have heard them this
morning. There wasn't any open windows or holes into our house, only a tumble dryer tube, but that is full of crap and leads into the tumble dryer.

Is it possible someone put them through the letter box? Can you buy boxes of bees in the UK?

If they had come through the letter box, they would have been all over the house though and not just in the kitchen. There were 2 in the front room window, but all overs fixated with the back garden.

    It just seems really odd.

If there was literally 40 or 50 that is weird, like an Amytiville Horror moment with the flies.

Seems very unusual unless there is a nest somewhere in your house or nearby, but it would be a mighty strange parcel to post through a letterbox.

Well done on getting rid of them. I'd have taken care of my kids and give the newspaper to my missus

Maybe a nest in the stoves vent exhaust? I got stung on the eyelid a number of months ago putting up flood lights. Wasps are some seriously aggressive when pissed off!!

    On the eyelid? Fuck me...

My girlfriend, who is allergic, had one sting the inside of her mouth/throat a couple of years ago. She had to be rushed to the hospital and got injections of benadryl and adrenaline to stop her from croaking.

One of the fuckers fly up my short and start stinging my upper thigh when I was driving once. Luckily he didn't get anywhere too tender or I might have crashed.

As a kid I ALWAYS pressed my luck with bees, wasps, hornets, yellow jackets. I sought them out and hunted them down...Why? Because there was this one time I was playing with one of my friends and he accidentally stepped on a yellow jacket nest and within seconds both of us were engulfed in angry yellow jackets....from that point on I plotted to rid the world of them and I was pretty good at it too.

My friend's mom got attacked by Japanese Hornets and had to go to the hospital for several days...those fuckers are HUGE.

I would suggest checking weather stripping if you've got windows or doors and if not then they probably came in through a vent or something...there were probably that many because they were looking to start a new nest.

She was fine. Now she has to carry around an epi-pen with her in case she gets stung and goes into shock again, but aside from that she is okay.

    It was very biblical.

I'm guessing they found a hole in somewhere and then followed the leader in. Before they realised, they had all ended up in my kitchen.

What's even more fucked up is that we were trying to explain to our five year old daughter that morning, not to be afraid of bees. (she somehow has some phobia of wasps and bees already) we return home and there were shit loads!

We were joking earlier that we should stick her in a room full of them to cure her fear! Then they appeared.

Be careful what you wish for ay?

I hate those little monsters. I disturbed a nest when I was a kid and got stung by about a dozen of them at once. I had them inside my tshirt, everywhere. It was absolute agony. One came through the window into my office last week, I murdered it with a textbook. I was taking no chances.

50 of them at once sounds abominable. Far too many to take on at once.

Coincidently I came home from the pub yesterday to find my Dad in my bedroom armed with a Dyson sucking shit loads of wasps up! I was assured by my Dad that there were 100's in my room before he Hoovered the fuckers up, literally my curtains (drapes) were moving due to so many crawling on them.

My Mon had rang some pest guy who said it was too early for there to be a nest but more than likely a few hundred had followed the Queen Bee into the chimney above my room looking for a place to make a nest. I can only assume they have some how found a way out of the chimney breast into my room from behind my wardrobe.

Anyways, last night after I'd Hoovered another couple dozen or so wasps up I fell asleep. I woke up around 2am to have at least 20 buzzin around my room. I scarpered downstairs to the sofa and spent the night there. I'm back in my room now and had to hoover some more of the fuckers up just out of my sock drawer, in fact I can still hear them buzzing in the chimney breast as we speak.

Fuck sleeping in here tonight, I'm going in the spare room me thinks!

As a kid I was killing hundreds of wasps and putting them in a bucket. Unfortunately one was alive a bit me. I was running up and down the garden in pain. serves me right.
