Default Should OBL's death photos be released?

There seems to be a debate with regards to this. It is my contention that there is no need for those photos to be released. It will be of no benefit to the US to do so. On the other hand, the release would just further inflame the hatred towards this country and may serve as a rallying point.

Sorry but I lost my online connection before I was able to post the poll.

I'm in your corner as to what the criteria ought to be. This isn't about "right to know" or anything like that. It should simply be a calculation about what helps us win. Whatever that answer is oughtta govern.

When we have his daughter saying she saw him killed at American hands and the Pakistani guy nearby as Twittering as the raid actually happened and the President going "all in" with the claim? That would seem sufficient "proof of death" for all but the zaniest conspiracy nut.

I don't believe everything that any government says but I believe the US government on this one. I am sure that they have verified the identity of the body. They are aware that their enemies would just be more than happy to discredit them if OBL is still alive.

If bin Laden was still alive, we'd know by now. This isn't something they could fake with him alive, unless he's in super-secret-double-custody. Releasing the photos helps nothing, but potentially provides a martyr to rally around.

Doesn't bother me if they do or they don't. Personally I don't need to see footage of someone being shot in the face before I believe they've been shot in the face. I've seen the pictures of the compound in the aftermath and his daughter saying she saw him die, that's enough for me to believe that shit went down

You know what, I like Obama's stance on this. Just because it's been done before doesnt make it right. There isnt much to be gained in the eyes of people who already have doubts, especially in today era of technology. There will always be some guy who would argue the legitimacy. This is kind of taking the moral high ground. I could see if there is some surge of dispute that happens they release something but why inflame, its kind of like excessive celebration in the NFL. Show some respect and you in turn may recieve respect.

Its hypocritical not to show the OBL death pics....I mean the New York Times damn near wet themselves with joy showing the "torture" at Abu Ghrab to humiliate W but oh no we certainly can't show the OBL death pic because it might incite a terrorist attack on Obama's watch.

These Al Queda douchebags already hate the hell out of us so whether we show the pic or not they'll try to kill us, so we may as well embrace the responsibility for it.

I believe the Abu Ghraib photos had been linked to the media and the US government has nothing to do with their publication. Any media is definitely salivating at seeing the OBL death photos. But the US government is the one who has possession of those photos and it will be irresponsible of them to release it.

I am not concerned about Al Queda hating the hell out of the US because they already do but it may radicalize other Muslims who had been on the fence and it may infuriate those who were not radicals.

What do you think a person will feel if they see the death photo of someone significant to them in the media? You have to remember that OBL has many fanatical followers.

I tend to agree, that there is no need for these allegedly gruesome photos to be released, but on the other hand, to be honest, i'm morbidly curious, and I believe America and the world has a right to see the photos.
As for inflaming hatred, perhaps, but it's not really going make it any worse then it already is, show the fucking photos.
