    Default Erik Morales Ranked

I guess I missed this but Erik Morales is once again in the Ring Magazine ratings. He is currently the number 8 ranked 140 and has been in the rankings for the past four months. Now one can say it is a sign of just how low the era has sunk and there may be some truth in that. But Morales was first ranked in 1995 at 122. So he has been ranked across sixteen years. No it's not championships, yes it is a function of someone's opinion, but it is still awfully impressive.

So I looked up some other guys.

    Ray Robinson-Ranked across 21 years.
    Archie Moore-21 years
    Muhammad Ali-17 years
George Foreman-25 years (that's just sick)
    Joe Louis-17 years
    Carlos Ortiz-10 years
    Emile Griffith-14 years
    Henry Armstrong -8 years
    Floyd Patterson-19 years (really? WOW!)
    Julio Cesar Chavez-14 years

That is SOME company Erik Morales is keeping isn't it?

It's amazing what heart and experience can do for you. He has more heart than most boxers out there and that's what helped him in the Maidana fight. You look at guys like Zab, and Alexander who to me have not shown the true heart of champions, and these guys are much younger than Morales. I don't think he will win another belt but i can see him giving anyone at 140 some problems. He may not have the same reflexes, but you have to know that he will keep coming all night long.

He really is in a great group of guys who have been ranked for such a long time. Don't know how many more fight he has left in him, but it's been a joy watching him.

Morales will be fighting for the WBC title against GKW! His experience might win himself another title.

He has shown a lot of fighters what a true legend looks like , may have won against Maidaina if he wasnt fighting with one eye for so long ,even if he doesnt win another title he has been a joy to watch for so many years.

I was trying to figure out when I first saw Terrible. Pretty sure it was on an Oscar undercard two years or so before he fought Zaragoza. So I Think I've had the good fortune to see all those sixteen years.

Morales is a warrior and surprised a lot of people with his "loss" to Maidana that should have been a win.

Verno Phillips was ranked in the top 10 at 154 lbs for 10 years straight. THAT is dedication and consistency.

Floyd, Shane and Manny have been rated at the highest level for many years as well.
