No way Holyfield wins this, he really needs to hang them up. Hope he doesn't get hurt badly.
Sad stuff. People were calling for Holyfield to retire FIFTEEN years ago. Obviously at the time it wasn't really the case that he needed to, but nonetheless he was taking serious punishment and it probably would've been in his best interest. The worst part is that aside from the Klitschkos Holyfield is still taking on legitimate players in todays wasteland, and yet the last guy to stop him was freaking James Toney 8 years ago. After watching that fight against Chagaev I really doubt Povetkin will stop him either. forty nine... Just wow.
Holyfield wont get stopped but Povetkin is certainly active enough to make it an utterly convicing UD. I'll still be cheering for TheRealDeal though

I think Holyfield will get stopped.
Watch his recent fight with Sherman Williams.
He was able to rock Holyfield numerous times and the only reason he didn't go on to stop Holyfield was because Holyfield quit after the end of the 3rd round which resulted it being a no contest because Holyfield had a cut.
Williams isn't a puncher and basically he sucks. Holyfield is done.
It's such a shame because i'm a big Evander fan. I hate to see him fight on like this.
Although it is natural to want to cheer for a legend like Holyfield, and actually want him to win, I think it's dangerous for him, and if he wins then good on him, but I hope the medicals to let him keep fighting are exceptionally stringent.
I just wonder how they can really screen for brain damage or early signs of dementia etc in these standard medicals. Holyfield is obviously still in condition, sadly better shape than most HW contenders. I say make all 40+ fighters recite "she sold sea shells by the sea shore" ten times before they are clear to fight. Holyfield wouldn't have a hope in hell of passing then. But I guess neither would a lot of past greats![]()
This is the end of the road for Evander. It will be all over inside 6 rounds imo, probably 4.
He's struggled desperately in his last fights against appalling opposition. At least Povetkin isn't a puncher and will probably beat him up gently.
Awful fight for him to take though, basically beating up a pensioner.
Holyfield needs to be stopped and beat up. would hate to see it but it's the only way i can see him realising enough is enough, if he loses on points even by wide margins he will still be convinced he can become champ again.
Who the hell is advising him? whoever it is they are obviously being paid a lot of money to go along with the real deal.
Povetkin is worse than David Haye in doing this. This is his version of Audley Harrison. A guy who is 2 decades past his best and closer to the bus pass than the start of his career.
Shame on you Povetkin.![]()
I didn't think eh struggled that much with Brian Nielson or Frans Botha. Did he ?
I honestly think Holyfield will put up a pretty good fight against Povetkin. Povetkin really isn't that good.
He'll almost certainly still beat a near 50 Holyfield, but maybe not. Holyfield has a small chance I think.
"You knocked him down...now how bout you try knockin me down ?"
I think knocking out Botha and Neilson were two decent wins for Evander. He showed punch power, combinations and was still bouncing on his toes at the end. The Sherman Williams fight as over before it started due to to Shermans headbutts but it did show that Evander can still take flush shots. Before that Evander outboxed the heavyweight champion and was robbed of the decision so he has certainly kept himself in the picture.
Povetkin cant run like Ibragimov and Donald did. He will come to fight which is what Evander wants. If he cant KO an invincible looking Tyson then it wont be as big of a shock to see him beat some fat Russian IMO.
haha you mean the 46 year old Brian Nielson who hadn't fought in almost 10 years and finally succumbed after a competitive 10 round battle and the 42 year old Botha, coming off a draw against the heralded Pedro Carrion, who Evander managed to come from behind to stop in the 8th?
Great wins
Sherman Williams was rocking Holyfield, he looked like he was going to get stopped that night. He was behind on all the judges scorecards. Luckily a minor cut from a headbutt meant he was able to pull out at the end of the third round and get a no contest, much like Nate Campbell did when he was getting beat up by Tim Bradley.
I had never heard of Sherman Williams.
None of these fights bode well for Evander when facing arguably the third best fighter in the heavyweight division. Holyfield is doomed, the ridiculous dream will end here with a battered and broken Holyfield saved from himself by the referee.
