Duran Movie With De Niro and Usher Starts Filming on 6/4 - Boxing News
Yea that's great, heard about this a couple of years ago when it was in talks. De Niro is still a great actor as shown in his last film and could be gold as the trainer if this is done right. Will have to look into the guy who is playing Duran, not sure I've heard of him. I think of Usher as just gay but really he could be perfect for Sugar Ray on film, he has the look and clearly he can dance.
I heard about this a while back when they were just in talks about it but now that it's happening I can't wait for it.

Wisdom, compassion and courage are the three universally recognised moral qualities of men.
Gael Garcia Bernal will be playing the role of Duran
Not sure about Usher as Leonard though

Al Pacino was supposed to play Durans trainer Ray Arcel. Not a bad second though in the Bobster
Gael Garcia Bernal is now attached to play famed Panamanian boxer Robert Duran in a film that will tell the "inside story" about the legendary "No Mas" boxing match against Sugar Ray Leonard. The two boxers and longtime rivals met on November 25, 1980 at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans for the second bout against each other in their career. Duran had won the their first encounter seven months earlier in April thanks to a close, but unanimous decision by ringside officials. This match however, would end far more theatrically, with Duran telling the referee in the eighth round ""No Mas" ("no more" in Spanish) leading to technical knockout victory for Leonard. Duran become persona non grata in his native country after the match and it took years for him to rebuild his stature in the country.
The proposed film would be written, directed and produced by Venezuelan helmer Jonathan Jakubowicz and Al Pacino has shown interest in the film, circling the role of trainer Ray Arcel.
The film is not yet greenlit, but producer Ben Silverman ("MacGruber," "The Office") does believe the project has a lot of potential saying, "This is a big opportunity. The Latin American population over-indexes in terms of sports and boxing. There's a lot of momentum around the script that Jonathan wrote." And certainly, it sounds like a classic boxing tale tailor-made for splashy big screen version. We'll see how this plays out, meanwhile check out some footage from the "No Mas" match below.

I just hope they do the great man justice.
It'll never work, Ushers nips are far too big, he aint fooling anyone that he can play SRL. I'm not falling for it, do these casting people think we are stupid.![]()
De Niro, is way past it, as much as I love him.
Usher WTF, there must be a more decent actor.
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
I went off De niro when he started doing the Focker films, they can be pretty funny but just don't like seeing De niro in them. He's still one of my favourites along with Pacino so either of them I would have been happy seeing play Arcel. Thing with me is that after watching their classics, if they do other films that are a lower standard or completely different genre I feel they are selling out a bit.
Who would everyone like to see play Leonard in place of Usher? I'm going to have a think about it myself. I'm sure there must be someone else who would have been better but I suppose Usher is a 'name'.
Ah so THAT is why Usher is growing out his afro now.
