I've thought for a long time Ward was the type of champion that could be on that special truly elite level, and this performance is the one that really places him up there IMO at the RJJ, BHOP, PBF echelon of the sport. It's too bad he wasn't at this level 6 years ago because I would love to see how a fight between him and Calzaghe would have gone, but I would probably favor him like I would RJJ or BHOP. I hope either Dirrell or eventually guys like Golovkin can progress to worthy adversaries because Ward has a great resume so far, but the list of elite competition is almost vanished when he just had his best performance.

No way! Hes just the man of the moment!

Calzaghe didnt struggle and have to hold on like a little wimp against Bika. For all of Calzaghes faults style wise, holding and headbutting wasnt one of them.

If Calzaghe struggled, hed work harder and piss all over an opponent. Its a shame they arent around at the same time, although if they were, Ward wouldnt be where he is now. He would try to hold Calzaghe but be fended off with hundreds of punches and his Hopkins like style would be waiting too long to land something beween.

Ward is special, he may not be spectacular but he works very hard at his boxing skills and makes the fights easy. He does enough to win and he is not a showman but he is looking at the bigger picture. Which is to have a great legacy.

This was Ward's best performance to date. Sure he was still dirty in the clinch, but he was damn effective. He wanted it far more than Dawson and took the fight out of the bigger man. Outboxed him as well. Practically no one figured Ward would stop Dawson like that.

On a side note I felt it was uncalled for of Smoger to not just wave off the fight after the 3rd knockdown, and essentially force Dawson to expliciitley quit. Fucker asked Dawson about 5 times. I know I know boxers should never quit and aren't supposed to be human, but Jesus Chad was out of the fight by the 6th round and we all knew it.

Calzaghe arguably lost to Robin Reid when he was at the stage Ward is in his career, and it was another 5+ years after that before he fought an elite fighter. I suspect you are really just a troll, so it's probably not worth arguing with you. Ward has a way higher output than Hopkins did by the time he fought Calzaghe, and that fight really could have gone either way anyways.

That was an awesome performance, and not to take anything away from ward but dawson has been lackluster for the last 2 years or so....he lost his heart, will, whatever you want to call it and definitely didnt display any yesterday. Hell even in the bhop win all he had to do was pour it on and pile it on against a fifty year old and he didnt. I think I consider wards wins over froch and kessler better honestly cause those dudes came to fight, even if he headbutted kessler to death which was bullshit.
