Default How do I throw a step in hook?

Like im used to rotating my foot or "putting the cigarette out" in order to rotate my hips and thats my mental que, but if Im throwing a lead step in hook my foot is in mid air and I cant "put the cigarette out" so I cant rotate my hips so I cant throw the lead left hook!?

    How do I do this?

Many thanks in advance guys as always!!!

(bare in mind I know this is dangerous and unadvised technique unless you are roy jones jr but I have a special situation it can be used)

Watch the Donald Curry vs Milton McCrory fight; it ends with as pretty a left hook, thrown while stepping forward that you'll ever see.
The trick to that punch, short of leaping in, is mastering the timing of the weight transference, when it shifts back to your rear foot after you step in. Try this: Throw a jab, shooting your arm out to full extension, then leave it there. Then walk up to it, keeping your arm extended. Move your front foot first, then your back foot, and as soon as the back foot settles, bend your arm and hook, your weight going onto your rear foot. You can hook off your jab that way, or step in and hook.
Or you can step in and to the left (assuming an orthodox fighter here), a little in but more left, without moving your right foot, then throw what is basically a straight left hand, your weight turning back over your right foot.

What I found most interesting in the vid and punch, is just seconds before he shows how badly a poor executed punch and miss can look. Then quickly gets into form and range, and fixes that. And it becomes epic.

Yeah, he was really looking for that hook. In the minute before the knockdown he missed at least three and landed one.
I've always wondered if McCrory had talked bad about Mills Lane before the fight, maybe said something about his mother, and that is why Mills let Curry hit him with that last right hand.
