Default Best Sports Cities in the U.S.

A Countdown of the 13 Best Sports Cities | Bleacher Report

I imagine this topic gets a lot of air time among neighborhood tavern "experts". Not too many surprises in the list, although some cities are obviously carried by one or two professional teams, while the others flounder. Chicago, for instance, is a football town, with the proud tradition of the Bears. And once MJ came to town, it became a basketball city also. No thanks to the Cubs, who haven't won a championship in probably over a century. I was surprised to see Detroit so high, seeing as to how none of their teams have had continued success in recent years. Miami's obviously there because of the Heat, although the Dolphins of the 70's had a lot to do with that as well. And I was really surprised not to see Pittsburgh there, since the Steelers and Pirates have both had huge success over the years.

Some big cities are also notably missing from the list, like Los Angeles, Cleveland, Houston, Baltimore, etc.

I guess I only have a passing interest in professional sports and am much more of a college fan. When I think of great sports towns/events I think of Lincoln Nebraska, Kyle Field, Neyland Stadium, tailgating in the Grove before an Ole Miss game, Cameron Arena, Georgia vs Florida etc

In some states that's all they've got. Alabama, Oklahoma (before the Thunder), Oregon, etc, etc. I'm a bit opposite. Only a passing interest in college sports (mostly major, historic rivalries, or awesome teams like the Crimson Tide).... and a huge fan of professional sports. Although admittedly I'm not much of an NBA fan. I'd rather watch the Final Four than the NBA playoffs.

I just find the passion, excitement and entertainment value better in college football. Texas has plenty of both pro and college options. I'm sure NBA/MLB trump college ball for the average Texan but even in the home of the Dallas Cowboys the most expensive ticket for a football game this year is next weekend's A&M vs Alabama SEC showdown.
