    Default GTA 5 - Views?

I bought this today and I after 4 hours of playing I have only completed the one mission. I just wanted to nick a car and explore all that I could. I got myself a cable car to the top of Mount Chiliad (can't remember it's name) and decided to kill myself by jumping and running into the abyss. I enjoyed it. I then stole another car and decided to go on a coast to coast road trip and then decided to try and fill the map out as much as possible before continuing. I also went to the barbers and made Franklyn look like James Toney. Obviously I have barely scratched the surface.

It looks and feels very different to GTA 4. With all the countyside and bright colours it is like a fusion of Max Payne 3 + Red Dead Redemption and seems to be massive whence my 4 hours just fiddling about on the roads and mud paths. It does look quite gorgeous on top of the mountain and the ocean looks great. Oh, I also went to the fairground and wasted some money on the rides. The rollercoaster was fun, but the big wheel was a bit dull. I was unarmed, so decided against forcing the refund. It just wasn't worth the trouble. I am new and can't be bothered with the police yet. I also went to the strip club, but I am not wasting my money on that rubbish when women should be paying me with my James Toney beard. I did have a drink though and after went to see a film, but it was closed. For some reason they aren't open at 3am in the morning.

Anyway, I was pretty poor after my rides, haircut, and drink. I will need to turn to crime pretty quick. Whilst walking back to my car after enjoying the sun on the ocean, I also had the misfortune of seeing a stray dog being hit by an oncoming truck. It's great seeing animals in the game, but a shame that they are semi retarded.

I see some people on games forums wittering on about how quickly they finish a game. That is not something to boast about. You spend 35 pounds on a game and should take your time with it. Cinema is dead, painting is seen in minutes. A game, a modern game, is something that takes the two somewhere new for me and people should enjoy it rather than hurrying through. I will finish this game in 150 hours and that is because I shall suck in every animation, every shade of the sky, every mission, and take my characters as far as they can go. I am a gamer Memphis and I am not afraid to say it.

Thoughts on the game so far? And please no spoilers.

I haven't had chance to pick a copy up yet, planning on grabbing it after work on Friday. I cannot wait, more excited about this than the new generation of consoles.

The multiplayer GTA looks epic, really excited about that too.

I take it the game is every bit as amazing as I'm hoping? I will probably never complete it, but I'm going to enjoy it!

I have loved the series since it's inception, even the logo gives me goose bumps of nostalgia. It is a cultural phenomenon originating from these fair shores and will be remembered as the first game to transcend it's format. I don't have 4 spare hours to sit down and play it in one go but I still have very vivid collections of playing all night in stunned and shocked awe in 2001 when 3 was released. ( The last time before that I pulled an all night session was Super Mario 64 in 1997 and that was as much to do with the quality of green being passed around as exploring the trippy three dimensional environment for the first time.)

I have ordered it and a new PS3. My PS3 died two years ago and so when I have played the odd game it has been on Steam with the PC. Steam is great because you can buy and help green light small indie games from smaller developers and buy old classics for nostalgia and new releases for so much less money than a console game, but GTA is made for the big screen. My stepson is as excited as me because we both have older PS3 games we did not get around to finishing, as well as the prospect of playing GTA5. You should take some selfies in game Miles and post them up here

Previous games were worth buying for the sharpness of wit in the script and radio stations alone let alone the unparalleled joy of mowing down pensioners in shell suits, and Lazlo introducing some classic pop song as you were hunted down by a squadron of police cars and a helicopter until your petrol tank exploded and you were left running with a grenade launcher on your shoulder, trying to blow the chopper out of the sky. Robbing, nicking golf buggies, getting inebriated and causing mayhem it was like a night out with @Spicoli in his wasted youth

3D in 3 was wow inducing enough but then motorbikes and flying in Vice City and then BMX's in San Andreas carried it on. I thought 4 was nice for it's realism but it lost way to much of the irreverence and humour, the cartoonish twist and the ultimately affectionate if scathing recreation of a mythical America that exists in the mind of counter culture youth from the UK and the rest of the world, was missing. I hear that keen sense of parody is back in 5 and that the balance between realistic environments and caricatured populations with plenty of opportunity for free roaming, russian doll like, game within a game, joy has returned. I can't wait, have fun Miles.

Ha! Yeh man I remember the very first ones, the overhead arcade like set up, next thing you know 3 comes out and its Have not played GTA5 yet and haven't even finished 4 but on the odd rainy Sunday its a good stress relief . The greatness of the game is the total non lineal and open world set up. That also makes it extremely easy to get distracted and in fact end up smashing around in a Trash Truck laying on the horn and making road pizza out of coppers. Went through the C.J San Andreas one using only a dirt bike as a challenge. Exceptional manuverability...climbing stairs, roof top to roof top and losing 3,4 wanted levels in hallway alleys ha. You can literally climb anything with the dirt bike...ride up the back of a speeding car and enjoy the ride. They went politically correct a bit in 4 and did away with the side quests of finding 100 "packages" of coke. Sometimes you'd just tune in the different stations and leave the game on for back up noise. What makes me laugh is a good many tunes I watch now or download now also found on the soundtracks, I'll see 20'somethings comment "OHH GTA" Need to check the game out but finding it here is a challenge this early I would assume. The map is unbelievable, looks alot like the prior game with the expansive green area and counrty side. Might have to actually stop playing Fallout 3 now, finally!

You can bet your arse that they are probably tighter, funnier and more entertaining that most terrestrial output being watched tonight. GTA is more than a game. You know the holodeck in Star Trek ?, well that is sort of here Apparently there is a scene in it in which the father of some young guy exasperated with his stoner son wasting all day playing a game on his console comes in and shoots the TV, Lyle Elvis Style

    Wtf... really lol.

I remember my dad coming home with a wooden and plastic box one night .. we gathered round the Bang and oulfsen tv and marvelled at the driving game (using the paddles lol) Air sea combat and Pele's international soccer lol.

Things have come a LONG way since the Atari 2600 console.
I swear my brother was playing asteroids for about half day once . on the back of the box was an instruction of how to submit proof of your score by photo if I remember right hahaha .

    I feel old now lol

The game is stunning. Personally, I have a soft spot for GTA4 which gets a tough rep for losing its sense of 'fun', but it had a lot of fun in the missions. For me The Ballad of Gay Tony was when GTA really started to get wacky again and this fuses those together well. Franklin on his own probably wouldn't seem as 'fun', but with the 3 characters you have all the nuances of GTA being played out. I particularly like Michael with his dysfunctional family and weekly trips to the shrink who archly looks at his watch for the seconds to tick down. I haven't played Trevor yet, but from what I have read, he brings the 'crazy' into the game. I cannot wait to get my hands on him.

It is a huge visual treat as I said in my first post and that is what I spent my time exploring initially, but since then I am up to 15% completion and the game is so hard to put down. You just want to continue the story or play the side games. I really enjoyed the tennis and golf, but I found both to be too easy on normal level, so next time will try difficult. I've now watched 2 films at the cinema and again they add to the game. One was a parody of European existentialism and made no sense and the other was the curious fable of The Loneliest Robot in England. Quite bizarre, but enjoyable. For me the TV in the game is good and satirises just why I don't what very much TV. However, in the case of the game you want to watch to see how they are ripping it to shreds.

I think the TV smashing was just Michael hurling something through it, no guns were involved in that. It's a very funny scene.

Maybe this is a spoiler so look away now...........

The satire of society takes you even as far as assasinating a Mark Zuckerberg/Steve Jobs type figure as he is about to test a new phone live on stage and on Weazel news. I call up the phone whilst watching on TV at home and the phone is rigged to explode. I blew his head right off right there on stage. Afterwards, I sat there and thought to myself, 'That's fucked up'. However, it was brilliant as it fitted my view that Zuckerberg and Jobs have messed up society and so need to be taught a lesson for providing the CIA with cheap mass surveillance. The onstage assasination is a grand American tradition and you cannot ever criticise GTA for anything as everything is taken from the society around it. It's very clever.

I still love my Amiga wrote so many tunes on it and used to make simple animations for onstage projection. Loved Shadow of the beast, Super Guina sisters, speedball, worms, deluxe paint, for a musician octomed the tracker and Music X, a very early DAW just blew me away.
