Went out to the lake (Georgetown) again this morning, which is something I try to do as often as I can. There was a full (or very nearly so) moon, so I went out earlier than usual to enjoy it. As a result it was too dark for me to see much so the dog and I took a break on the lake shore. It was cold up there this morning, below freezing, so as soon as we were back in the vehicle, I was fiddling with the heater.
And so I almost missed it. Right on the side of the road were a cow moose and her calf, no more than a dozen feet from me when I stopped the car. I watched them until I realized that I was between them and where they were trying to go, so I went on my way. A little further on I saw two mule deer does; yesterday, in almost the exact same place, I saw 4 whitetail does. You don't typically see whitetail at that elevation.
Then I had to drive home directly into the sun...I'm thinking that the whole rise in the east, set in the west concept is based on very out-dated technology, and maybe we could work on getting the sun to just be 'up' without the whole rising process?
