Just got back from a two day business trip to this town. If you were to ask me my thoughts on the place, I would have to say "39 and raining," because it was 39 and raining the entire time I was there. From Wednesday at noon until 7 this morning, it was 39 degrees and it rained the whole time. The motel I stayed in was ok- a Motel 6, I'm frugal- from the front. When I got around back I saw the shirtless guy working on the Trans Am with no windows, and he was there all night.
Too much traffic for me, though there are some very nice neighborhoods with a market, a restaurant, and a couple drinking establishments within walking distance. I could live there, but I couldn't see myself fighting that traffic every day at this point in life. Also, the Spokane Boxing Club is either out of business or has moved. I went by the location given in the phone book and it is now a Christian Fellowship meeting place and some type of rehab/recovery meeting place.
I had read a lot about the very high crime rate in Spokane but I found everybody to be very friendly. When I was walking back from Jack in the Box at 3AM, the girl that asked me for change was very nice. Pretty, too, blond girl about 20, 21. No good comes of hanging around hotels in the middle of the night with shirtless guys working on Trans Ams. I wasn't tempted to tell her that she wasn't having nearly as much fun as she thought, but she wouldn't have believed me.
