    Default Kelly Pavlik-Paul Williams

Remember when this fight kept getting postponed due to Pavlik's staph infection? Its unfortunate the bout got cancelled cuz it would have been a war..

    Who would have won?

I'd go with Pavlik by KO.

Williams didn't have enough of a punch to keep Kelly off him.

Pavlik could be outboxed as Old Man Hopkins proved, but Williams didn't have the kind of technical ability that Hopkins has. Williams got hit a lot.

Williams would of beat him. Pavlik was already on the slide. He never really wanted the fight.

Thumbs up Re: Kelly Pavlik-Paul Williams

Pavlik's staph infection surfaced in March 2009 right after the Rubio fight which happened one month earlier. Extremely serious kind, MRSA.

Bout with Paul Williams was scheduled for early Oct 2009, but the recurrent staph problem caused a rescheduling to Dec 2009, then the bout was cancelled.

In mid-2008, Williams was still at 147, went to Middleweight in late-2008, but in 2009, Williams was several pounds under the Middleweight limit, weighing in at 157 lbs.
Pavlik was barely making 160, and was routinely rehydrating to about 175 the next night.

In late-2009, Pavlik was 27 years old, Williams 28.
    Williams 6'1", Pavlik 6'2".

Neither guy was on the downslide in 2009.
Both only had 1 loss, they happened in 2008, Williams to Quintana, Pavlik to Hopkins.
Pavlik had a terrific 2007 and most of 2008 as well until late-2008 with the Hopkins loss, but Pavlik had followed that loss with the win over Rubio in 2009.
Williams followed the Quintana loss with a string of wins.

Anyway, both guys were top fighters in 2009 who would both lose to Sergio Martinez in 2010 settling who was the best at 160.

Paul Williams would have won by easy decision. It is a such a shame what happened to Paul. Sergio out boxed him and found a way to land that one big shot. That shot, though, was a once in a lifetime. Have you seen him do that since? If Paul could have kept his mental attitude in check he would have beaten Sergio in a rematch and everything would have been different. Just having Paul's name in the mix would have changed the landscape of those divisions.

Rematch? Williams getting knocked out was the rematch. Are you talkin' if there was a rubber-match?

No matter, I think Williams lost the 1st fight anyway, and there's plenty who would agree with me. I wouldn't say it was a robbery, it was a good scrap, but I think Sergio beat Williams the 1st time around. Sergio left no doubt in the rematch as to who was the better fighter, and took it out of the 3 judges' incapable hands...

Pavlik by Ko, Williams coming from a lighter weight class and had a weak chin.

I think Pavlik would be too strong inside as Williams loved giving up his height and proved his chin one to many times for his own good. Pavlik could do wonders on Paul off that long jab.

Paul Williams is tailor made for Pavlik, straight up made to order.

Williams' height and reach aren't even relevant because he neglects his physcial attributes and would rather fight small.

Pavlik would look so good against a wide open target like williams.

When it was supposed to happen, Pavlik lost his appetite fir boxing. Williams by UD at that point.

I think Pavlik may have enough to win this but agreed pre Hopkins Kelly was a beast.

As long as Pavlik didn't switch to southpaw then I go with Williams by decision.
