Why I Fixed Fights
Pretty cool. It's a long read but for a real boxing fan it's very interesting stuff.

He was interviewed live last thursday on "Q" (cbc) and it was quite interesting.
His take is dark. I'd like to believe that most of the sport occurs between what he says and the heroic nonsense writers are foolish enough to buy and sell.
It is in the unabated proliferation of belts and their attached sanctioning fees in which the Lion's share of corruption is more worrying. Every new trinket waters down the value of pre-existing ones. Cast this in the shadow of Promoters forcing fighters into dark alleyway contracts and holding future options like nooses around Boxers necks and then add to that the active discouragement and shunning of Fighters who dare try and unify or say anything against these self appointed bodies and you can see why a lot of people are disappointed when uncovering the dark underbelly of boxing.
Indeed. The WBC is a ubiquitous tutorial on this. Now I hate picking on them all the time but they are the most corrupt legally operating racketeers in the business and have been for 50 years. Joses kid is nothing but a chip off the old block making all kinds of statements with no intention of seeing them through.
He's on record saying he wants "undisputed" champions and goes on to crap on the current situation where there are more titles then elite fighters. However once poor Chris gets his brains stomped by Stiverne all of a sudden he must face Wilder. A mandatory that has no business being one. A construct that has not even fought a top 30 heavyweight. Now if ever there was a litmus test for this new train of thought it would be this sad division. There is no tourney needed or bickering because the other guy (Wlad) has the other three majors. He has a mandatory in Pulev but the IBF is already on record saying there mandate is to put unification over mandatory. They have already put their money where their mouth is by allowing Hopkins to pursue unification rather then force him to face his mandatory. But alas the WBC has forced Stevenson to fight Fonfara but in fairness Fonfara has at least worked for his top 5 positions in all of the big 4. What cracks me up about this is that had Chris won instead of Stiverne he would have been pushed to a Wlad fight immediately and Wilder would have most likely been told to fight an eliminator because of his sad level of competition.
