Thread: NWA - Straight outta Compton

I was a massive NWA fan back when they hit the scene, same with Public Enemy and massively into my tunes even aged around 11-12 years old which led me into electronic music and on to become a DJ.
Watched this NWA movie last night and it's fucking brilliant and covers their rise and fall really accurately.
Some great acting and the characters are bang on, Ice Cube is like the real Ice Cube and looks and talks exactly like him (being his son must have helped)
Even non rap fans will like this film.
Best movie ive seen this year, won't spoil it for those that don't know the story.
Strong 8/10 from me.

Dre went to jail for parking tickets.
Easy died with over $30 million in the bank -- never had his house repo'd.
NWA weren't arrested at that concert in Detroit. The police did it after the show at the hotel and Cube went on record as saying the cops mostly just wanted autographs for their kids.

I really enjoyed it, it had that same charm 8 mile did, which also surprised me.

Thought ice cube junior was the standout, really was like looking at cube from 30 years ago!

I'm sure there are a few exaggerations, just to make good TV and to make themselves look better.

5 movies for 5 bucks.

Southpaw, watched 10 minutes of it.

But Compton was surprisingly good. About to state how truthful it was--until I read Rocco's post.

What got me was how their manager Jerry Heller was portrayed. Exactly how I remembered Ice Cube leaving- but didn't think Dr.Dre would be allowed to show Heller in such a negative light.

Myself I- was a self-professed player hater when it came to the rap game. They killed the musicians.

Before rap- live bands played the clubs. then came rap & drum machines -so it fucked it up for musicians like myself. I knew of NWA, but never bought their stuff. And a bit ticked off to hear Ruthless Rocco state what was embellished. That's some bullshit, if they did that-

good lookin out Rocco oh, & thanks for hipping me to who played Cube-- I was thinking: Damn they got a good look a like and his demeanor is like Cube from the 90's!!!
