if it's true, I am pleased he's retired. It's not nice seeing a true legend of the ring turn into a punchbag.
What I don't understand about all of this is why he has got Russian citizenship? if it was because they would let him continue his career, I could see that, but why go through all the rigmarole.

Yeah , just saw that . I'm gutted to be honest, Mitchell is one of my favourite fighters , I was at the O2 when he fought Johanssen, it was a cracker. Mitchell is a proper boxer with good "old school" mentality.
Although I'm gutted , I'm also pleased he's been honest with himself and realises he's not feeling it anymore. That's the hardest thing for fighters to do really, especially because he's only 31. I don't want him getting seriously hurt.
Wouldn't surprise me to see him back in the ring in 18 months time , (or in nick!) I really wish him all the best for the future.

Great news and a long time coming. Wish the best for him and like to see him concentrate efforts Stateside with a few fighters. Still don't get the whole Russian citizenship thing.

I think the Russian citizenship was more part of a business venture than anything else. The guy promoting his fights was using him as a front man for a bunch of gyms/fitness centres/boxing gyms. Maybe after that last sparkage he doesn't have enough cachet over there to have any commercial value. Somehow I can't see him learning Russian and living over there now.

Thank Jeebus he's retired though.

Yeah, he does to be fair, but so does Kevin Mitchell imo.

I added it because there's just as many posts in the thread about Mitchell.
