    Calderon defense announced!

    Thursday, March 30 2006

    By Herminio Nieves

PR Best Boxing announced on Thursday the tenth title defense of WBO straweight champion Ivan Calderon who will be facing Nicaragua's Miguel Tellez, currently ranked number three in the WBO ratings. The event called "Night of Champions Directv" will de held at the Mario Morales Coliseum in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. The other main attraction will feature a battle between junior welterweight contender Henry 'Nitro' Bruseles and former lightweight world champion César Bazán.

Anyone fill me in on his opponent? Number 3...is he dangerous?

I don't understand why Calderon has been stranded on WBO for so long.

On all alphabet soup, i consider WBO as the least among the 4

I think its time for Calderon to face real challenge and battle those little Japanese (WBC- Kyowa and WBA- Niida) rather than sitting on WBO lap

    Completely agree with you spade

Plus the guy hes fighting is no where near the top 25 fighters of the division. Hope he makes a move soon.

Calderon should even beat mayol in my opinion, then move up for a great fight with villoria. Villoria should win but it would be a great fight.

My boy Kyowa is very afraid of that Filipino.

Mayol's last fight was shown here in Japan and they have the right to be concern for Kyowa.

My other boy Niida is also very concern.

i thought you were also pinoy, spade. anyways, they have reason to be concerned. mayol is tall at minimumweight with very good skills and power. calderon and mayol have a common opponent in lorenzo trejo. ivan won a ud while rodel ko'ed trejo in 4 rds.

Don't you think Calderon could outbox MAYOL?Also, what is your predicition for the Kwoya fight KK?
These lower weight classes rock!!!!! Mayol,Calderon,Boom Boom Viloria, Arce Pongsaklek,Darchinyan,RM,Martin Castillo, heck even Kwoya looks exciting plus so many more!! They need to start fighting each other!!

it's likely that mayol will stop kyowa but if not, it's going to be a comfortable decision win for mayol. i really doubt calderon could outbox him cos mayol has always been dominant in all his fights and with serious skills and power to boot plus a 4 inch height advantage, i don't see how calderon could match up to him.

Good points KK but I have to see more of Calderon before I can give a conclusive answer. I have seen quite a bit of Mayol and am impressed. He has the game's seal of approval.

That is like saying you prefer Cow, Horse and Dog crap, over cat crap.

Ivan Calderon is a superb fighter, and so much more than a 'mere' WBO Champion.

Fighters make the title, not vice versa... IMO
