Never beg a 40 dollar hooker...specially after she's just turned down your mom's credit card!!
Cal stopped him in the 3. - as far as I remember the fight wwas in Italy? correct me if I am wrong.
Who went to the Olympics?
yeah, i heard Joe was robbed the chance to go to the olympics?
Are you sure Calzaghe stopped him?? I thought it was a UD loss, Ive seen a clip of the fight and as the action stops at one point Calzaghe says "you can run but you can't hide".. Pretty cool actually.. Ill try and see if I can find the clip, but I thought that was the end of the fight so it would have been a UD, could have just been 1 round finished tho.
thats footage i would love to see....if anyone has it, please post it....awesome..
I have no doubt about the result, it was a third round stoppage, but I do not remember if the fight was in GB or Italy - but I guess that it was in Italy.Originally Posted by p4pking
Joe didn't want to be trained by Team GB trainers and so he didn't go to the Olympics, he wanted his dad to train him because he thought Team GB trainers would try to change his punching technique. So they sent Robin Reid instead because they wouldn't allow Enzo to be Joe's trainer for the Olympics.
The Calzaghe's were pissed, and decided to represent Sardinia instead of Great Britain at a dual meet where Joe met Chris Byrd. Byrd had had 300+ amateur bouts and had never been stopped, Calzaghe was the first to stop him (and it was Byrd's last ever amateur bout). Apparently Joe was losing the fight until catching up with Byrd right at the end and getting the stoppage in the last few seconds!
yo Watt, did ya get the message from boxingscene i gave you about Chris?Originally Posted by WWatt
what calzaghe stopped byrd. Oh my god joe should have come to the states a long time ago he would have made such a huge name in boxing and a ton of money. now his career is always going to be debated with "what might have been"
"Very few people really understand what it means to be a fighter. I hate it when I hear someone say, 'That fighter doesn't have guts. I hate that, I don't care if you're a world champion six times over or a four-round fighter, to step inside that ring, you have to have guts" Oscar De La Hoya
I guess that you are a Byrd fan and that is cool with me - just to correct you Byrd had like 275 fights and was loosing only about 25 fights - one of them was a USA vs. Italy/GB fight against Calzaghe, when he was stopped.Originally Posted by WWatt
