Thread: HBO Boxing Theme Music

This may seem a tad odd to many of you, but I feel it's about time that there was a thread dedicated to the theme tune from HBO Boxing. Does anything else get you quite as pumped up for the main event? I hear that music hit and I get goosebumps.

Your thoughts please? Let me know I'm not the only one that feels the composer deserves some sort of award

Yes, I like the music. But, hearing Michael Buffer start talking really gets me going. Especially after he says his line, they add in fireworks. That makes me not be able to sit down.

yea thats t when i watch i turn it up loud, the music is crunk at the beginning when they show the ring and the pictures of the fighters fighting. The commentary in my opinion is the best, and who could forget Ray Torres spanish interpeter. Just talking abt this gets me going and excited abt sat night, JUDAH VS MAYWEATHER

Then you've got Harold Lederman.

I think he must start every thought with that

Lederman, Okay Jim 59-55 3 rounds to one, so and so,

there is no 3 knockdown rule, only the referee can stop, incase the fight is stopped due to an accidental head but we go to the scorecards after four, and no fighter can be saved in any round INCLUDING THE 12TH AND FINAL ROUND, JIM!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed that. You can set your watch to Jim Lampley, Harold Lederman, and Larry Mercant:

Jim Lampley: "Harold Lederman how do you have it through 9?"

Harold Lederman (in unbelievably loud voice even though the mic is right in front of him): "Jim I got it 87-84, six rounds to three, Johnny Doh. Jim I gotta tell you I just think he's winnin' the fight I mean that last round you coulda scored 10-8 even though there was no knockdown because Franky Fingers got rocked right before the bell, if he keeps on holding the ref's probably gonna take a point."

Larry Merchant: "I have the same score, only I had the third round even."

You guys hit it right on the mark.
For some reason, in HBO before the main even, you can just see and hear the "electricity" of the fight.
It seems to transfer easily on HBO. cc for bringing that up and you guys for the commentary.

On a related note (to the thread topic) can Showtime PLEASE do something about their budget-a$$ opening reel--the "Saturday Night" theme plus terrible computer animation of a generic "boxer" in stars-and-stripes trunks is really not doing it for me.

They're gonna have to do something spectacular to trump HBO's production. Everything about HBO just seems so much more professional.

NOTHING gets me more pumped then the showtime theme, the HBO theme is ok, but the showtime theme (SATURDAY) is by far the best, they took one of the gayest songs EVER and made it intense

Any one like the BBC one?

The ITV one is more of a jingle than music

I love everything about HBO.

when Larry Merchant dies or retires its just not going to be the same.
