An Afghan child forced to marry a man at least twice her age in a traditional bridal exchange has been tortured to death by her husband in a revenge killing, officials said Tuesday.

The body of the girl called Hameya, whom authorities estimate was aged between 7 and 10, was found on Sunday night, said Naqibullah Amini, police spokesman for the northwestern province of Badghis.

"child" is defined differently in different cultures. Here in the US, under 18.

In some cultures, a girl menstruates, she can conceive, she's not considered a child.

I think it's somewhere in between.

Also, individuals mature much differently

For example, two kids both 13, one acts 10, the other acts 17; one looks immature, the other looks much older than his age.

I watched a documentary about an all female penitentiary in Afghanistan a while ago, it was as hideous a thing as you could make up. The vast majority of the women in there were charged with fleeing arranged marriages, or dating a boy from the wrong tribe, etc. Literally the best women in this hellhole are punished with their lives for showing any kind of fortitude.
