    Default Beards and Boxing

Beards and Boxing. Do you think that the ban on beards in boxing should be overturned? Its not just people growing them for religious reasons there has been an odd mirroring of this from hipsters all over the west. Do you think it makes a difference ? there are all sorts of reason cited for the original ban in England from the potential for cushioning blows to hiding any cuts that might happen in a fight, getting in an opponents eyes etc

    This report today

A ruling that amateur fighters in Wales must be clean shaven will be overturned, Welsh Boxing has announced.
Aaron Singh, a Sikh, has welcomed the change as he had previously said the rule used by the Welsh Amateur Boxing Association (WABA) was discriminatory.
The 20-year-old Cardiff University student said he had "missed out on a lot of experiences" as he could not compete because of his faith.
Welsh Boxing said the rule change would be introduced from 1 August.
The Sikh principle of Kesh prevents the removal of any hair on the body, because it is considered sacred and a gift from God.
Mr Singh, who is from the East Midlands but studies in Cardiff, told BBC Radio Wales Breakfast with Claire Summers it was a "very significant change".
"This means I can actually get my amateur career started as I wasn't able to before," he said.
"I would like to thank the WABA for even considering what I have had to say and actually making a change."
WABA chairman Derek McAndrew said: "This is an important rule change, which is in line with the WABA board's strategy of inclusivity for boxing in Wales, and takes effect in time for the new domestic season."
A WABA statement said the decision had been taken after receiving legal advice, consultation with the international regulatory body and an internal review of its domestic policies and rules.
The English amateur body, England Boxing, also reversed the ban following a campaign from Sikh and Muslim boxers.

So do you think the ban on beards in boxing should be lifted all over the world or kept in place?

Would anyone have tried to tell Kimbo Slice (RIP) to shave his beard ?

There's a whole league for people with beards, it's called "women's boxing"

Beards are for lumberjacks, jihadists and homo's.

A beard doesn't give you no advantage inside the ring, just an easier target but maybe a beard gets in an opponents eyes. The hair gets in there mouth. It makes it too hard to see cuts.

You know, that reminds me of something that's bothered me for years. Men have their genitals on the outside, women on the inside. Is that some kind of sick fkng joke, or what ? Men, the warrior of the race, the gender that's supposed to be able to fight to protect the female and young, has their genitals just hanging out there in the open within easy reach of a kick, fist, or even teeth, while women, who don't naturally make war or fight battles, have nothing to worry about other than ordinary bruising and aren't rendered senseless and curled into a puking fetal ball with a single shot to the genitals.

    Banned.... no. Regulated.... yes.

    Ok

    NOT ok

Interestingly, neither the WBC nor the WBA or WBO address facial hair in their rules and regulations. Maybe in light of this new controversy they should.

Commission's dictate rules not alphabets (New York have different rules to California and Britain etc). Muslim Danny Williams always had to trim his beard in the UK but under certain US commissions could roll up all grizzly adams.

The other benefit is - if women had genitals on the outside you wouldn't be a virgin.

I stand corrected, although the alphabet orgs do have their own set of rules.

However, looked at the NYSAC and NSAC and found nothing on facial hair requirements on either site.

They should definitely be kept in check and required to be on the shorter side. Not sure it should or could get to the point of commission enforcement they as they have a hard enough time appointing competent officials. Broners and that Irish fella who fought Tevin Farmer are on the ridiculous side. They don't have nearly the affect on a fight, potential cuts etc, as do some braided hairstyles and both need attention.
