We kinda missed this match up during the early 00's didn't we? Kinda like how we missed Tua vs Wlad. Who do you think would have won this one? I think Chris gets a decision in a very tactical fight.

Toney always said that Byrd wouldn't fight him because Toney manhandled Byrd on so many occasions in sparring.

Toney would lose at heavyweight but maybe stand a chance at cruiserweight.
Toney liked the slower and bigger heavyweights but Byrd was not either and would be too quick for Toney.

I think at heavyweight the speed and craftiness of Byrd would give Toney fits. As great as he was Toney wasn't exactly twinkle toes out there and could have deliberate flat feet. Now if Byrd comes in like he did late on, where he could fight like he was trying to prove a point and over compensate loading up etc..then he'd give Toney his best shot with up close countering. Byrd also liked his early heavyweights slowish and didn't face many speedsters. Until Ike turned him into a preachy pretzel the worst he had been hurt was to a cruiser Williams who had him down and literally out on his feet saved by the bell. Couldn't have two more diverse personality types either![]()
Bad style match up for James, who preferred opponents who stood in front of him and tried to take his head off. Byrd would’ve “slapped” his way to a decision, never really hurting James but moving in and out and out working him over twelve rounds. I don’t see Byrd being chopped down like Nunn in this fight either, in his prime Chris was a very sturdy fighter (suffering stoppages in his prime to Ibeabuchi and Wlad who were both much larger and harder punchers than Toney).
Toney would hurt Byrd to the body.
